Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Mon. April 11, 1994

IONIA- Roman J. Slowinski, 88, of Ionia died Saturday, April 9, 1994, at Ionia 
County Memorial Hospital.

He was born the son of Roman and Anna (Krieger) Slowinski in Berlin Township in 
July 9,1905.

He married Loretta Andres on May 24, 1937.

Mr. Slowinski was a member of the SS Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, the 
Knights of Columbus, past exalted ruler of the Ionia Elks, and the past 
president of the Ionia Fishing and Hunting Club. He worked for 32 years at the 
Ionia State Hospital, retiring in 1967.

He is survived by his wife Loretta, one daughter, Marilyn Ransom of Ionia; 
three granddaughters, Susan, Cheryl and Rachel; one sister, Josephine Wertsch 
of Grand Rapids. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Orpha in 1932, his son, Roman Hugh 
in 1983; six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church, Ionia, with the Rev. Charles Hall officiating. The organist will be 
Mary Cusack.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the Cook Funeral 
Home. An Elks memorial service will be held at the Rich St. Chapel at 7 p.m. 
Monday under the auspices of the Ionia Elks Lodge. A prayer vigil service will 
be held Monday at 8 p.m. at the Rich St. Chapel.

Memorials can be made to SS Peter and Paul's Educational Trust Fund or the 
Ionia Right to Life.
