Lake Odessa – Myra Smith, 81, of 1123 Second avenue, died Thursday evening at 
Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids following a brief illness.

She was born in Lowell August 24, 1896, the daughter of James and Elizabeth 
Goodsell Ball and attended Portland schools.

She married Floyd Aldrich in Portland in 1918 and married Fred Smith in Lake 
Odessa in 1938.  Mr. Smith preceded her in death in 1958.  She was also 
preceded in death by one son, Woodrow Aldrich in 1962, one brother, Howard Ball 
and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Lake Odessa Central United Methodist church, the 
United Methodist Women, Blue Star Mothers, Merry social club and the historical 
society.  She lived in Portland and Lansing before moving to Lake Odessa in 1928

Mrs. Smith was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone in Lake Odessa until 1940 
and from 1960 until December 1977, was employed by the Pickens-Koops funeral 
chapel.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Betty) Kotula of Glen Ellyn, 
Illinois, two sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Letha) Morse of Grand Ledge and Mrs. 
Morris (Nettie) Shattuck of Portland; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Aldrich of 
New Bern, North Carolina and three grandchildren.

Services are Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Pickens-Koops funeral chapel with 
Rev. William Hertel officiating.  Burial is in Lakeside cemetery.  A memorial 
fund is established for the Lake Odessa Central United Methodist church.   The 
family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Saturday and 
Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
