James E. “Jim” Smith, 71, of Grattan Township, Belding, passed away unexpectedly
Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2006, at his home.  Jim was born Nov. 28, 1934, in
Belding, the son of Carrol and Eileen Bolenbaugh Smith.  Jim graduated from
Belding High School with the class of 1953.  Jim was a member of St. Patrick
Catholic Church in Parnell.  He was married Oct. 27, 1956, in Belding to Carol
Geisen.  He and Carol owned Belding Printing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
 Jim also served on the editorial board of The Daily News. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Carol;
their children, Greg and Carolyn Smith, Matt and Dyan Smith, all of Belding;
four special grandchildren, Steve, Kevin, Lori and Dana; and two cousins,
Beverly VanHoose, Bob and Gayla Burgess.

Mass of Christian burial is 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church,
Parnell with Fathers Ron Hutchinson and Rock Badgerow officiating.  Interment
will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.  The family will greet relatives and
friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding,
and one hour before Mass on Wednesday at the church.  Memorial contributions may
be given to the Alvah N. Belding library fund or a charity of one’s choice.
