Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Nov. 1997

SARANAC- Clair W. Speckin, 70, of Saranac died Nov. 17, 1997 in Grand Rapids.

He was born Dec. 14, 1926 in Ionia, the son of Clarence Winifred and Hazel 
Gertrude (Jerrils) Speckin. He married Madeline Kyser, April 6, 1968 in Ionia. 
He was a WWII veteran of the Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a 
member of the Ionia Moose Lodge and a member of Galilee Baptist Church. He was 
very involved in scouting and was a lifetime scout master. He was an avid 
golfer and bowler and enjoyed traveling 

He is survived by his wife, Madeline Speckin of Saranac; five sons, Ronald 
(Susan) Speckin of Ionia, Robert (Debra) Speckin of Greenville, Dennis Speckin 
of Ionia, Brian Speckin of Ionia and Vaughn (Sonia) Vickery of Saranac; three 
daughters, Sandra (Michael) Hawkins of California, Lorrie JeRue of Ionia and 
Valerie (Kevin) Lordly of Ak; one sister, Martha Jane (Bill) Wieczorek of 
Spring Lake; 24 grandchildren and 19 ½ great-grandchildren; and several nieces 
and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Galilee Baptist Church with 
Rev. James Frank officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. 
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 
at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Galilee 
Baptist Church or Saranac First Response.
