IONIA- Dorothy Spence, 73, died Friday at her residence in Ionia.

Born May 7, 1915, in Edmore, she was the daughter of John P. and Georgianna C. 
Gideon Jorgensen. 

She attended Hayes School until she began working at an early age. She was 
married to Rowley A. Nelson around 1947. He died Dec. 12, 1950.

She was employed at A.C. Spark Plug, Chrysler Corporation, Mitchell-Bentley 
Corp., A.O. Smith and General Tire until her retirement in 1977.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Ionia and its “Forever Young” 
group, and was secretary of the General Tire Retirees group. She was a past 
Girl Scout and Brownie leader, as well as a den mother for Cub Scouts. 

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Sandra) Hodges lf Lennon, Mich., 
and Mrs. Galen (Cheryl) Fountain of Ionia; a son, Craig A. Spence of Ionia; six 
grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and 
one aunt. 

She was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from First Christian Church, with 
the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating.

Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. 

The family will be at Cook Funeral Home, Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 
p.m.

Memorials have been established for First Christian Church and the Michigan 
Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
