Word was received here yesterday that John J. Spriggs, formerly and for many 
years a resident of this city, had passed away at the home of his son, 
Berthold, at Bellevue, Tuesday morning.  Funeral services will be held at 
Bellevue on Friday afternoon and burial will be in the cemetery at that place.

Mr. Spriggs was a life-long resident of this city.  Years ago he took a 
prominent place in the rising tide of Socialism about the time that party 
loomed at its largest and at one time ran as the Socialist candidate for 
congress from this district.  For many years he made his home with his mother-
in-law, the late Mrs. Uutticia Currie, in the residence at 203 E. State street, 
but several years ago left hers and went to make his home with his son, 
Berthold, at Bellevue.
