Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 8 Apr 1963

Zylpha E. Steele, 86, former Ionia school teacher, died early Sunday morning at
M.J. Clark Memorial home in Grand Rapids after a short illness.  She was born in
Ionia, January 12, 1877, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Steele.  Miss
Steele had resided at the Clark Memorial home since 1957.

She was a teacher in public schools of Ionia and Gratiot counties 35 years.  She
taught at St. Johns, Ludington, Corunna and Ionia.  Miss Steele received a life
certificate at Central Michigan college at Mt. Pleasant and did graduate work at
Kalamazoo Teachers college, now Western Michigan university.

She was a member of Ionia First Methodist church for many years and recently
transferred to Trinity Methodist Church in Grand Rapids.  She was active in
youth groups and church activities.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ray (Paulena) Vandemark of Heidelberg, Fla.; a
brother, James M. Steele of Hale; several nieces and nephews.

The body is at Creston Mortuary in Grand Rapids.  Funeral service will be
conducted at Clark Home chapel Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., and committal service will
be at 4 p.m. at Highland Park cemetery at Ionia.
