IONIA- Walter J. Thome, 69, of Ionia died Monday at Ferguson Hospital in 
Grand Rapids. 

He was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Grand Rapids, the son of Richard M. and 
Bernadine Brechting Thome.

He attended Aquinas College and then Michigan State University where he 
received his bachelor's degree. He later received a master's degree from 
Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. 

He retired from the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons and subsequently worked at 
Ionia County Health Department, retiring earlier this year.

he was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church and was an active 
member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as treasurer for many years.

He was married to Mary Ellen Quinlan on May 21, 1949, in Chicago. She 
survives.

Also surviving are his children; Mrs. Mark (Adele) Williams of Saranac; Mrs. 
Mark (Virginia) Weber of Lowell; Robert Thome of Atlanta, Ga.; Dr. John 
Thome of Rome, Italy; Mrs. Kent (Ellen) Lecureux of South Lyon; Mrs. John 
(Anne) Va Via of Mt. Clemens; Margaret Thome of Grand Ledge; Michael Thome 
of Haslett; and Stephen Thoe of Washington D.C.; 11 grandchildren.

Five brothers and a sister also survive, Erwin of Grand Rapids, Donald, 
Richard F. Robert and Joseph, all of Sparta; and Mrs. Walter (Delores) 
Homrich of Comstock Park, and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Mass will be offered at 2 p.m. Wednesday from SS. Peter and Paul's 
Catholic Church of Ionia.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cook Funeral Home, 220 Rich 
Street.

The family will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. 
Tuesday.
