Private Tinker is Laid to Rest as Palo Mourns
SOLDIER BOY WHO DIED IN FRANCE PAID FINE TRIBUTE BY COMMUNITY

School was closed for the day, business places closed, and the entire 
countryside was present at the little Methodist church of Palo yesterday 
afternoon to pay homage to Perle Tinker, private in Company H, 340 Infantry, 
who died in France of Pneumonia, October 5, 1916, and who was buried in the 
Palo cemetery yesterday.

The funeral ceremonies were impressive. A large American flag draped the casket 
and eight members of the local post, American Legion were bearers. Taps was 
sounded at the grave.

Rev. Beil, pastor of the Palo church, spoke eloquently of the great sacrifice 
made by Private Tinker. Heads were bowed by the whole community as the last 
rites were said. Flags, both the community flag of Palo and the American flag 
hung at half-mast.

Tinker was survived by his mother and a brother.
