Tooley, 81, of Belding, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus, Grand Rapids. She was born July 27, 1920, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Norman and Jessie Gardner Johnson. Maxine graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1937. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Hugo Fales Post 203, Belding. She married Eugene “Bud” Tooley at Belding on Nov. 11, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Vivian Betser of Greenville. She is survived by her husband, Eugene “Bud” Tooley; their daughter, Suella Tooley of Belding; three sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara Webster, Sally and Dick Marr, all of Belding, Genevieve Webster of Grand Rapids, and their children; and several special nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Daryl Britton officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory gardens. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
