                       Former Local Man Killed In Explosion
A telegram was received here on Thursday afternoon by John Ritterstorf, of S. Bridge

street, informing him that his brother-in-law, Albert VanAssche, a former resident 
of this city, had been badly injured in went down to Dearborn on Sunday to That 
evening a telephone call came which told that Mr. VanAssche had died as a result of

the accident.

Mr. and Mrs. Ritterstorf and Peter and Henry Ritterstorf and wives went down to 
Dearborn on Sunday to attend the funeral which was held on Monday and learned the 
particulars surrounding Mr. VanAssche's death. 

Mr. Van Assche, who had been engaged in building and contracting for a number of 
years, was at work shortly before noon on Thursday and was about to use some 
dynamite in blasting. He had laid the explosive down and was going to place a heavy

rock on it, when the rock slipped from his hands and dropped on the dynamite, 
setting it off. Mr. VanAssche was so badly injured in the explosion that he died at

about five o'clock that afternoon.

Prior to going to Dearborn to live, Mr. and Mrs. VanAssche had been residents of 
this city, having occupied the house now owned and occupied by Mrs. Maggie Rich, on

E. State Street and the family has many friends here, who will regret to learn of 
Mr. VanAssche's untimely passing.

Surviving are the widow and six children, his mother and a number of brothers and 
sisters, all of whom at one time lived here and are well known to many of our 
residents.
