George W. Weygandt, 75, of Rogers Heights, passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, 
at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

He was born April 8, 1933 in Lake Odessa, the son of Arden and Faye (Sells) 
Weygandt. During the Korean Conflict, George served with the U. S. Army in 
Germany for 3 years until his honorable discharge in 1955. On April 5, 1957, he 
married Marie Hodiak, ad they moved to the Big Rapids area in 1962 where they 
have lived since. For many years, George was a truck driver for Wolverine World 
Wide until retiring in 1997. George loved to ride horses, and was instrumental 
in helping to develop the Hungerford Lake Recreation Area Campground for 
equestrians. He also enjoyed hunting, especially for elk and mule deer in 
Montana. A devoted family man, George loved to spend time with his 
grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was willing to help anyone at anytime.

George is survived by his wife Marie; 2 daughters, Maria Weygandt of Kentwood 
and Kristi (Rob) DeRop of Northfield, Minn.; 1 son, George, Jr. “Chip” (Patty) 
of Trufant; 8 grandchildren, Randy (Sara) Bean, Anna (Austin) Shotwell, Jami 
DeRop, Jordon DeRop and Cooper, Parker, Jackson and Georgia Weygandt. ; 3 great-
grandchildren, Megan and Katelyn Bean, and Wyatt Shotwell; 2 sisters, Carol 
VanVleck of Woodbine, Md., Margaret (Rodney) DuVall of Damascus, Md.; a sister-
in-law Joan Weygandt of Lake Odessa and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma, and 3 brothers, Earl, Marvin 
and Max. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Mohnke 
Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Phil Bongard officiating. Spring burial 
will be in the Ladner Cemetery in Rogers Heights. Memorial contributions for 
the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or the Cardio 
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center, for Mecosta County Medical Center may be left 
at the funeral home, where George’s family will greet friends on Wednesday from 
2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and prior to services on Thursday. Online condolences may be
