The Belding Banner-News, Thursday, June 22, 1933


The Brink neighborhood is mourning the loss of our oldest settler, Eli Witt, 
aged 74 years, who passed away Wednesday evening June 14 after a two days 
illness.  He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his widow, a son, Leonard 
Witt, of Marysville, Washington; a daughter, Mrs. Laila Taylor, of Belding; 
three grandchildren, Mrs. Frances Doty, of Orleans; Erving Taylor, who resided 
with his grandparents, Virginia Taylor, of Belding, and a great-grandson, 
Gordon Doty, of Orleans; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends who 
will miss him very much as he was of a kind disposition, always ready to help 
anyone who needed a helping hand.  

The funeral was held at the Fitzjohn funeral home Saturday afternoon at two 
o’clock, Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating, and burial was in River Ridge cemetery.  
The pall bearers were Ernest and Fred Benton, Claude Bliss, Albert Hansen, 
Forrest Force and Otis Seeley.

Those from a distance to attend were Mr. and Mrs. George Hotchkiss, Mrs. Ethel 
Hill and son, and Walter Rich, of Ionia; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Seeley, of 
Lakeview; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Higgins, of Keene and Mr. and Mrs. Chauncy Snow 
of Ronald.
