Coopersville Observer, Feb. 10, 1928
  Silas Slaughter was born in the Netherlands on January 15, 1842 and died 
after a brief illness at his home in Coopersville on February 3, 1928 at the 
age of 86 years and 19 days.
  He came to Michigan with his parents at the age of 7 and has been a resident 
of Ottawa Co. for 79 years.
  He married in 1875 to Anna BAKKER, who passed away 32 years ago.  They had 6 
children: Louis, Henry and Reka of Coopersville; Guy of Milwaukee; and Obe and 
Anna who preceded him in death.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Harold 
SLAUGHTER, Boyd SLAUGHTER, Guy SLAUGHTER JR, and Beth SLAUGHTER; one bother 
William SLAUGHTER of Terre Haute, Ind.
  A year ago, he made a confession of his faith and became a member of the 
Reformed Church, of which he had been a lifelong attendant.
  Funeral services were held in the Reformed Church Monday afternoon with 
burial in the Coopersville Cemetery.
