Arenac County Independent, Wednesday, May 20, 1931, p5 Transcriber, date unknown Contributor unknown Sterling Pioneer Answers Final Summons John August Felske, 70 years old, pioneer shoemaker of Sterling, passed away at his home there Monday and will be laid to rest Thursday afternoon, the funeral services to be held from the Sterling Lutheran Church at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Myer will officiate. Burial will take place in the Sterling Cemetery. Mr. Felske came to the village of Sterling back in 1881 and has followed the shoe repairing and cobbling work all during that time. He was an expert in this work and his services were always in demand. Surviving members of the family are three sons, Arthur, Flint; Albert, California; and Robert, Toledo, O., and one step son E. L. Berg, Millington, in addition to several grandchildren. He was married in 1886 to Eva Streuenberg. His wife preceded him in death October 27, 1930. [John Felske's wife was Eva Streuer Berg. She was the widow of Wilhelm Berg, who died October 13, 1882.]
