Townsend Died Sunday Was Former Drain Commissioner and Twining Merchant. Albert H. Townsend, 80, one of Arenac County’s early settlers and former drain commissioner and AuGres and Twining merchant, passed away last Sunday after an illness of three months at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Hollister, at Twining. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church at Twining Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Roland Brooks of the Whittemore Methodist church officiating. Burial took place in the Cedar Valley Cemetery. The Omer Masonic Lodge had charge of the services at the grave. Born May 23, 1867 in Canada, he came to Arenac County and located first in AuGres. Thirty-nine years ago he went to Twining where he conducted a mercantile business for several years, retiring several years ago from active business. For several years he was county drain commissioner, he and James P. Baike of Omer carrying on several interesting campaigns and each winning from the other on almost equal terms. He was also supervisor of Turner Township at various times and was long a member of the Twining Village school board. He also held several township offices. Mr. Townsend was a member of Omer Masonic Lodge No. 377, Grace Chapter; O.E.S No. 41; and a life member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. Mr. Townsend was married to Miss Martha Hempton in Canada in February of 1886. She passed away May 29, 1921. He later was married to Mrs. Margaret Agans and they made their home in Twining together until she passed away in August of 1945. Surviving are four daughters; Mrs. Mabel Hull, Lake Worth, Fla.; Mrs. Mildred Hollister, Twining; Mrs. Joyce Brubaker, Oscoda; Mrs. Constance Bronson, Turner; two sons; Herbert, Miami, Fla.; Merle, Turner.
