Arenac County Independent, Wednesday, June 3, 1931 Transcriber, date unknown Contributor unknown Death of Mrs. John Treichel Gottliebe Paulina Lempke, was born January 31, 1861 at Pinnitz, West Prussia, Germany. She was united in marriage with John Treichel in 1881 and four years later they became residents of Sterling which has since continued to be their home. Five children were born to them, three of whom continue to survive. Her death due to heart failure occurred May 16 at the age of 70 years, three months and 15 days. She is mourned by her husband, three children, Charles Treichel, Ernest Treichel and Mrs. Gust Pekrul; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Of the thrifty and industrious type, Mrs. Treichel was never idle. A real helpmate in the farm home, a friendly helpful neighbor and an active worker in the Lutheran church of which the family have long been members. Several years ago they turned their farm over to their son Ernest and purchased a home in the village. A great lover of flowers, she spent hours in her garden which was a model of neatness and colorful with blossoms the season through. Loved in her home as wife and mother and mourned by friends and neighbors who had known her so long sympathy expressed in flowers and other kindly acts came from everyone in the community. The funeral services were held Tuesday conducted by Rev. Louis Meyers of St. John's Lutheran church. The remains were entered in the family lot at Sterling Cemetery.
