Silver Brook Entry

Brief History - In 1836 George N. Bond purchased 6 acres to be used as a public cemetery. The cemetery in modern day is over 60 acres. The entrance gates are the third entry gates used over the decades and are situated on the corner of Cherry and Main Street in Niles. Gates were designed by Judson Clay Webber, and constructed in 1926. Evart Leo Gonder built the stone entrance way and the Chime Tower. His signature style of his work is evident on each piece.   Many of his family, are laid to rest in this cemetery.
A plaque at the main entrance recognizes the first Cemetery Board in 1930: Judson Webber, Harry Fox, Charles E. Moon, Harry Mansfield and Fred A. Reynolds. In February of 2009 the Niles Star had an in depth article on this cemetery. Also pictured below is the Silverboork Abbey built in 1926.
The photos shown here are Cemetery Art and Stones taken by Teresa O'Riley and Chime Tower from the collection of Jim Hofstra

A searchable data base for this cemetery can be used at http://www.friendsofsilverbrook.org/site3/. This is an excellent site
with many dedicated volunteers known as "The Friends of Silverbrook" Other than listing the few donated burials sent in by viewers, we have no intention
to do a large study on this cemetery, as the researchers have done a great job in cateloging and listing burials there.
