Memoranda, Name of Applicant, _______________ Address, _______________________ State of MichiganCounty of Berrien Alexander H. Scott Jr. being duly sworn says: I reside in St. Joseph Berrien County Michigan and have resided here for 21 years. I am a physician and surgeon and have been in the active practice of my profession in St. Joseph and vicinity ever since I came here. I was Asst. Surgeon of 12 th Mic. Vol. Inf. I knew a man who lived near St. Joseph by the name of “Rofe”. I remember that he was commonly called “Doc”. He was a chicken & egg buyer part of the time, traveling around the country, and speculating in funs some. If he ever attended a patient as a physician it must have been on account of the patients ignorance, as this man Rofe was never recognized or accepted as a physician by the profession in this vicinity. I never knew that he claimed to be a physician until recently. I do not know where he is now. He was only a short time in this vicinity. In my judgement it would be a travesty on the profession to accept his affidavit as last attending physician in a pension claim or any other case. I have no interest in the pension claim of Elizabeth Upson widow of Nelson Upson late pt. Co. I 7 Missori Inf. Vol. My P.O. St Joseph Mich Alex H.
