World War I is also known as the First World War and the Great War
and took place primarily in Europe from 1914 to 1918.
The immediate cause of the war was the assassination, on 28 June 1914,
of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne & his wife
Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. They were shot to death in Sarajevo.
