Senior Class History As Freshmen: We were the first Freshman Class in the new high school. We were rather timid at first, but got over it when we saw all of the upper classmen seemed as green as we, and were just as apt to get lost. We began almost at once to make our presence known by having a party in the Gym in November. Soon afterward we became an organized class, but our president, Charles Pardee, left us and his place was filled by the Vice-President, Marguerite Hanson. The other officers were Angie Rouse, secretary and Earl Kimball, treasurer. During the second semester Chester Hartsell was President; Bernice Knee, Vice-President; and Cleotus Feather, Secretary. As Sophomores: We again entered the high school, this time more respected members of the institution of learning. We chose for our officers: Katherine Howard, president; Sam Jacobson, vice-president; Cleotus Feather, secretary; and Elna Doster, treasurer. Our capable advisor was Miss Gamble. Our chief exhibition this year was a program in chapel where we learned that we had a lot of musical talent in our class, the highest talent in piano being in Genevieve Clements who is now the best in school, and Jeanetta Keefer who had the leading part in "Miss Cherry Blossom." We had our class clown, too. Can't you guess who he is? Sure -- Shorty Showers, of course. Another one was "Bozo Russell," our future journalist. One of our members, Alice Tyler, won second prize in an original story contest. Our last days as lower classmen were spent happily. As Juniors: Upper Classmen! Hurrah! Didn't we feel proud, though? We were being looked up to; and were doing our best to set an example for the Freshmen. As the first class meeting with Mr. Ormiston as our advisor we nominated class officers; and at the yearly election declared Floyd Englebert, president; W alter Roush, vice-president; Margaret Carmichael, secretary; and Doris Reynolds, treasurer. We had a Hallowe'en Masquerade party which showed our ability to put on good parties as it was the best one during the year. The annual Junior Play, a musical comedy entitled, "In Savage Land" was a great success. We also aided greatly in the Junior-Senior Prom. The students who distinguished themselves were: Dorothy Mulder as a very good reader, Benny Kritt (our next year's captain), Walter Roush, George King, Floyd Englebert in football. We finished the year by competing against the Seniors in a Tug of War. Although we were defeated, we were not discouraged for we knew that we would have another chance to do our best and win. As Seniors: We have now reached the goal toward which we have been struggling for the past three years. We realize that we have many more privileges than we have ever had before. This year we are accomplishing things under the leadership of officers chosen for fitness of office rather than for social or political reasons. Our officers arc: Harold King, president; Vernon Johns, vice-president; Olive Schairer, secretary; Doris Reynolds, treasurer; and the Board of Directors composed of Vera Nichols, Margaret Gustine, Floyd Englebert, and Sam Jacobson. Leaders of the clubs and other organizations are: Elyse Rinkenberger, Wendell Grow, and Chester Hartsell. Robert Howlett is also well known because of his pep in various clubs. Although we have a smaller class than last year our parties have been very successful, the Christmas party being one of the best. We set out at the beginning of the year to earn enough money to take the class on a trip to Chicago in the spring; and we are bringing it about by selling subscriptions for magazines, and other money making schemes. We begin to think of receiving our diplomas, and though it will be hard to leave the friends we have made, we realize that graduation means just a step higher and as yet we are "not on the heights, but climbing." -- Margaret Gustine
