Abbe, David
David Abbe, formerly of St. Joseph, died of cancer, near Pearl Grange, Monday, aged 75. He was a native of Massachusetts and came from New York to Royalton in 1832.  His wife who was an Olds, and three children survive him.  Miss mary Abbe, who is a teacher in the Chicago schools, is one of his daughters.

Mrs. Phebe Abbe, widow of the late David Abbe and an old resident of Benton township, died at her home east of this city, on pearl Grange road, Sunday night, of bronchitis after an illness of two months. She leaves three children, Mrs. Laura Griswold, Miss mary M. Abbe, and Mr. I.R. Abbe.  The funeral was held at the house at 2 o'clock today, with burial at Crystal Springs Cemetery.

funeral home, Three Oaks.
  Casket bearers were Robert Johannes, Felix Paul, Ronald Ganno, Al Randon and Rodney and Robert Littlejohn. - Honary casket bearers were James, Daniel and Patrick Branson and Bernie, Laurence, James and Robin
Christopher, all grandsons.  
  Burial was in Riverside cemetery Three Oaks.   Mr. Ackerman was a member of Three Oaks Masonic Lodge No. 239 F&AM.

Three Oaks - Mrs. Agnes J. Anderson, 68, of Route 1, Three Oaks, died Saturday evening at Mercy Hospital, Benton Harbor.
She was born May 29, 1908 in Minnesota and had lived in this area since 1967.
She formerly owned a gift and card shop in Brainerd, Minn.
Her husband Carl H. Anderson and two stepsons, Edward, Kettering, Ohio and Stanley, Sugar Grove, Ill, survive. The body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 pm. ata the
Harbert Community Church, of which she was a member.

Anderson, Carl  - Herald Palladium, Benton Harbor, MI - Jan 5, 1977 - Harbert - Carl Anderson, 82, Prairie Road, Harbert, died  Sunday, in Kettering, Ohio. death Jan 2, 1977
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan 8 in the Harbert Community church.  Mr. Anderson who owned and operated the Swedish Coffee Pot in 1946 to 1965<?>., was born  Jan 27, 1895 in Sweden, coming to the United States in 1914.  His first wife, Cora M. Magnuson, preceded him in death in 1965. His second wife, the former Agnes J. Johnson preceded him in death in 1976. Surviving are two sons, Edward, Kettering and Stanley , Sugar Grove, Ill.: A sister , Olga, in Sweden; three brothers, John and Henry both Illinois and Brur, Galseburg, Ill. 
     Mr. Anderson was a member of the Harbert Community church and a life member of the Masonic Lodge.  - Memorials may be made to the Harbert Community.

Three Oaks - Mrs. Carl (Cora Marie) Anderson, 65. of route 1, Three Oaks died at 3:40 a.m. this morning in St. Anthony's Hospital, Michigan City, where she had been a patient since Nov 25.
 Mrs. Anderson and her husband had owned and operated the Swedish Coffee Pot restaurant in Harbert.  She was born Chicago Feb 17,  1900, the daughter of Carl and Emma Magnuson. She married Carl H. Anderson
in Chicago, June 20, 1925 and came to Harbert from Chicago in 1946.  Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, Edward of Kettering, Ohio and Stanley of Sugar Grove, Ill. ; Two sisters - Mrs Esther Erickson of Niles, Michigan and Mrs. John (Florence) Jackson of Harbert; four brothers, Carl of  Chicago, Verner of South Haven, and Bernard and Adoph both of Harbert and  five grandchldren.
   Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Harbert Community church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Harbert Community church, with Rev. Gordon Smith, pastor,
officiating.
    Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, north of  Three Oaks, Michigan.

Angolin, Charles - An obituary for Charles Angolin was carried in the News Palladium on 13 Oct 1930 and it reads: “Charles Angoline, Gleaner For Many Years, Passed Away. Galien, Oct 13-Charles Angoline, member for 23 years of the Gleaners, at Olive Branch, died shortly after midnight Saturday at his home in Galien. Mr. Angoline, who was 70 years old, lived in New Troy a number of years ago, and later on a farm near Galien, from where he moved into Galien, just a week ago. He was born in Germany on May 3, 1860. Surviving Mr. Angoline are his widow and three children, Herbert Angoline, who resides on a farm near Galien; Charles Angoline at home, and Mrs. Fred Henspeter, whose home in north of Galien. There are also 11 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Augusta Hasse, who lives near St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, with prayers at the home at 1:30 and rites at the Saints church at 2 o’clock. Rev. Louis Kling of Three Oaks will officiate and burial will be in the Galien cemetery. The casket bearers will be Carl Renbarger, Rolland Potter, George Noggle, H. D. Angolin, Charles W - The newspaper, Niles Daily Star, carried the obituary for Charles W. Angolin on 11 Jun 1980. " Galien-Charles Angolin, 93, formerly of the Galien-Buchanan area, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Coldwater. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Angolin was an Army veteran of World War I and was a member of the Galien American Legion. He was born Sept. 29, 1886 in Berlin, Germany and came to this country at the age of two and spent the remainder of his life in this area. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Galien Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Ott of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Galien, will officiate." Charles W. The News Palladium carried the obituary of Hebert Angolin on 16 Aug 1971 and it reads: “Herbert A. Angolin Bridgman-Herbert A. Angolin, 75, route 1, Sawyer. Died Saturday morning in St. Joseph Memorial hospital where he had been a patient three weeks. Mr. Angolin was born Oct. 16, 1895, in Royalton township. Surviving are his widow, the former Minnie Revell, whom he married on Dec. 24, 1926; a son John of Sawyer; three daughters. Mrs. Leroy (Lois) Krieger of Sawyer, Mrs. Raymond (Betty) Sittig of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. Sanford (Helen) Wilson of Haines City, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and a brother Charles of Battle Creek. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Boyd funeral home, Bridgman. Rev. A. W. Pankratz, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church, Sawyer, will officiate. Burial will be in New Troy cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 this evening.” DOD 14 Aug 1971

The News Palladium carried the obituary for Marie Angolin on 15 Dec 1938 and it reads: “Mary Angoline Of Galien Dies; Rites Saturday Galien, Dec 15.-Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Kenny chapel and 2 oclock at the German Evangelical church for Mrs. Mary Louise Angoline, 76, who died at 11:15 last night. She had been a paralytic. The rev. L.J. Kling will officiate at the services. The church choir will sing. Burial will be in Galien cemetery. Mrs. Angoline was born July 18, 1862, in Berlin, Germany. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clara Henspeter of Galien; two sons, Herbert of Galien and Charles of Atlanta, Mich., 13 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Anna Rosa of Germany.”

CLAUDE C. ANSTISS, 65 (Niles Daily Star – September 5, 1950) Claude C. Anstiss died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Shaner, 988 South Fifteenth street, at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday. He had been ill about six months. Surviving are his widow, Sena, and their children, Donald, and Mrs. Shaner, of Niles, and Murry Anstiss, of Berrien Center; six grandchildren; three brothers, Leo, of Niles, Merle, of Berrien Springs, and Fred Anstiss, of Buchanan, and two sisters, Mrs. F. D. Bunnel, of Oak Park, Ill., and Mrs. Grace Personette, of Berrien Springs. Anstiss was born in Berrien Center on Oct. 7, 1884, and came here from Berrien Springs 12 years ago. He was employed by the Original Cabinet company here. Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. T. M. ANSTISS - George Anstiss, Sr., died Dec 2, 1914 -   of near this place, who was stricken with paralysis about six weeks ago, died at the hospital in LaPorte Wednesday, December 2. The remains were taken to Niles, Mich., where funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’ clock, at the H. E. Price undertaking parlors. Rev. R. A. Wright officiating. Interment was in Silver Brook cemetery. The deceased was about 68 years of age. Nearly ten years ago he came to the Jordan neighborhood where he has since made his home and will be greatly missed by his neighbors and many friends of the community. He is survived by five sons, Leo, Merle, George, Claude and Fred, also two daughters, Hazel and Blanche. Those from a distance who attended his funeral were Will Anstiss of LaPorte and Oliver Hardy and A. E. Vincent of this place.

GEORGE ANSTISS [ FUNERAL -- (Niles Daily Star – April 5, 1929) Funeral services were held in the Evangelical church this afternoon for George Anstiss, Junior High school student, and son of Mrs. And Mrs. George Anstiss, North Twelfth street. The Rev. John Schurman, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Mrs. Paul Rough and Mrs. Harry Edwards sang. The pallbearers were young men with whom the deceased had been associated in school and church work. Burial in Silverbrook cemetery.

ANSTISS - LEO R. ANSTISS died July 10, 1964 - - - Leo R. Anstiss, 84, of 1123 Ferry St., died at 4:05 p.m., Friday in the Dor-A-Lin nursing home. He had been at the home since March 26. ANSTISS - Mrs. Lillie Anstiss - obit - June 6, 1928 – - died this morning at Pawating hospital after a long illness and confinement there. She was 67 years old, and a resident of Berrien county all her life, living on the homestead north of the city all of her life with the exception of nine years when she lived in Niles. Her death was due to cancer of the throat. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed, but it is thought that the burial will take place Sunday in South Berrien Center cemetery. Rev. O. R. Grattan of the Methodist church of Niles will conduct the funeral services. The service will be held at the Union church in South Berrien Center. Mrs. Anstiss was born on the farm north of Niles, where she made her home for the greater part of her life. She was married 50 years ago to George W. Anstiss, who is now dead. Mrs. Anstiss is survived by seven children and 21 grandchildren. The children are Leo Anstiss, of Berrien Center; Mearle Anstiss, of Berrien Springs; Claude Anstiss, of Pokagon; George Anstiss and Mrs. Grace Personette, of Niles, Fred Anstiss, of Rockport, Mo. and Mrs. Hazel Bunnel, of Chicago.

ANSTISS - MEARLE C. ANSTISS – (Niles Daily Star – December 7, 1960) BERRIEN SPRINGS –
   Mearle C. Anstiss, 78, a former resident of Berrien Springs, died at 5 p.m., Tuesday in Jackson Osteopathic Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born May 5, 1882. He married Bertha Viola Schabel on Nov. 28, 1905. She died Feb. 3, 1926. On Sept. 25, 1928, he married Hazel E. Washburn, who survives. Other survivors include a foster daughter, Mrs. Betty Burgoyne of Jackson; three step children, Bud Washburn of Benton Harbor, Mrs. Violet Fields of Lebanon, Pa., and Mrs. Dortha Clark of Jackson, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A son, Delbert, preceded him in death.

Betty Apple,  Mrs William D. (Betty) Apple, 60, of 3928 Meadow Lane, St Joseph, died at her home Saturday afternoon following a lengthy illness.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 P.M. at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Services St Joseph, where friends may call beginning at 5 P.M. today.  Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens.  Memorials may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service.  Mrs Apple was born October 5, 1923, in Benton Harbor.  She had formerly been employed by VM Corporation and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1137, Benton Harbor.  Survivors include her husband, William D; a daughter, Candice McKissen of Grand Junction, Colorado, four brothers - Alton Gilbert of St Joseph, Ray Gilbert of Bangor, Jerry Gilbert of Sturgis, and Jack Gilbert of Paw Paw; a sister, Mrs Russell (Clara) Cote of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and two grandchildren.

Obituary:
Franklin Leroy Arnold, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Arnold, residing on Emmons street, West Niles, after an illness of two months, died on Saturday night, at 10:15 o'clock, aged 15 years and 6 months.  Frank was an apprentice at this office, and had nearly finished his first year's time.  Always faithful, obliging, courteous and kind; he possessed qualifications that go to make men of mark.  He had many kind friends, and during his illness was visited by his associates, and those from the Baptist Sunday school to which he belonged.  All were in love with him.  His parents, sister and brothers have the sympathy of all.  The funeral took place from the house at 10:30 this morning, Rev. Mr. Davis, of the Baptist church, officiating.  The remains were taken to Edwardsburg for interment in the family burying ground.
