Ferry, Adelia nee Brackett-The Niles
Daily Star carried the obituary of Adelia Ferry on 29 April 1965 and it reads:
Mrs. Adelia Ferry Buchanan-Mrs. Adelia Ferry, 73, of route two, died at 9 p.m.
Wednesday in her home, following an illness of several months. Mrs. Ferry was
born Jan. 19, 1892 in Lake Township, Berrien County. She was married to Peter
Ferry Nov. 17, 1915, in St. Joseph. He died Feb 20, 1939. Surviving are a son,
Edgar E. at home; and a brother, Walter Brackett, Buchanan. She was a member of
the New Troy Brethren Church, and was also a member of the Gleaners’
Society. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in her church.
The Rev. Gerald L. Kelley, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the New
Troy Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Swem Funeral Home here from noon

Ferry, Peter -The Niles Daily star
carried an obituary for Peter Ferry on 21 Feb 1939 and it reads: “Peter
Ferry Dead at 48; Stricken in Rural Home Monday Buchanan, Feb 21-Peter Ferry,
lifelong resident of Berrien county, died in his farm home five miles west of
here at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon following a two month illness. He was
48 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Thursday
afternoon in the New Troy Brethren church with the Rev. R. L. Williams
officiating. Burial will be in New Troy cemetery. Surviving are the widow, the
former Delia Brackett whom Mr. Ferry married in New Troy Nov. 17, 1915; one son
Edgar Eugene, Buchanan; three brothers, Clyde and George, New Troy, and A.E.
Ferry, Litchfield; also a sister, Mrs. Etta Carteville, Battle Creek. Friends

Fetke, Orville - An obituary for
Orville Fetke was carried in the News Palladium on 14 Mar 1949 and it reads:
“Orville Fetke Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. today at the
Kerlikowske funeral chapel, St. Joseph, for Orville Fetke. 47, former St.
Joseph resident, who died about noon Saturday at the Garfield Park community
hospital in Chicago, following an illness of only a few days. The Rev. E. A.
Iron, pastor of the Zion Evangelical church, officiated. Mrs. Louise Kelly sang
two songs, ‘Prayer Perfect’ and ‘Good night and Good
morning.’ Mildred Johnson presided at the organ. Burial was in the Spring
Run cemetery at Scottsdale. Casket bearers were Fred Grimm, Arthur, Otto and
Walter Eisenhart, Stanley Krause and Charles Christ. Mr. Fetke was born Feb.
19, 1902, the son of Albert and Augusta Fetke, who formerly lived on a farm at
Scottsdale. During his residence in St. Joseph he was associated with the
Modern Dry Cleaners. He had made his home in Chicago for the past 12 years.
Surviving with his widow, Mabel and a son, Donald of Chicago are: his mother,
now of South Bend, Ind.; and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Grimm, Chicago, Mrs.
Louis Miller and Mrs. Olga McDaniel, both of South Bend.” - Contributed

Fikes, Eliza K. -Mrs. Eliza K. Fikes
died Sunday at the Kalamazoo asylum where she had been taken but a few days
before.Mrs. Fikes was an old resident of Berrien Springs and leaves many
friends and relatives here.She was a sister of Mrs. Mary Hadlock.Funeral
services was held at Morris chapel on Tuesday.

Fish, John H. The Herald Press carried an obituary for John Fish on 10 Mar 1937 and it reads:
John H. Fish Of Royalton Dies Well Known Fruit Grower To Be Buried Friday
Afternoon John H. Fish, well known Royalton township fruit farmer, died at 6:10
a.m. today at his home following an illness of several months. He had been
engaged in fruit farming in Royalton for nearly 20 years moving to that township
from Galien in 1918. Mr. Fish, who was born in Argos, Ind. November 20, 1860, is
survived by his wife, Ora Geisler Fish; one son, Esthel R. Fish of Grand Rapids;
three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Doyle of Buchanan, Mrs. Mabel Winegar of Elkhart,
Ind., and Mrs. Zella Price of South Bend, Ind.; 26 grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; four step-children, Russell Geisler of St. Joseph, Mrs. Mildred
Bullard of Benton Harbor, and Mrs. Alice Jasper of St. Joseph; one sister, Mrs.
Levina Chapman of Argos, Ind; a half-brother, Edward Bevins of Argos, and a
half-sister, Mrs. Lucy Siders of South Bend. Funeral services will be held
Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The place of the rites and burial will be
announced later. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 in
the Dormer & Kerlikowske chapel with Rev. George Horst, pastor of the First
Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in Spring Run cemetery. On 12
Mar 1937 the same newspaper carried a follow-up, which reads: "John H. Fish
Buried Today Funeral services were conducted this afternoon in the Dormer &
Kerlikowske chapel for John H. Fish, well known Royalton township fruit grower
who died Wednesday. Rev. George Horst, pastor of the First Congregational
church, officiated in services. Mrs. Robert Gast sang 'The Old Rugged Cross' and
'Abide With Me.' Pall bearers were Charles, Edward and Frank Geisler, Reinhold
Damaske, Ray Brunke and Julius Tilly. Burial was in Spring Run cemetery."
Fisher, Grace - May 1, 1950 -
Mrs. Grace Fisher , May 1 - Mrs. Grace Fisher, of Chicago, died Saturday
afternoon enroute to Chicago. She and her husband were planning to maker their
home in Edwarsburg.
Surviving are her husband R. B. and a daughter, Miss
Mabel Fisher at home.
Funeral services will be held at the Teus
Funeral home in Chicago. Burial will be in Edwardsburg Cemetery.

- HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO YOUNG WORKER - May 12, 1952 - News
Palladium, Benton Harbor, Mich: Sylvester Fisher, 34, of 600 Highland
Avenue, was stricken with a fatal heart attack at 7:30 a.m. today in
the canal parking lot, where he was working on public works. He was
rushed to the Benton Harbor fire station, but firemen were unsuccessful
in their attempt to revive him by administering oxygen. Mr. Fisher was
born October 28, 1917 in Niles. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Fisher, moved to Benton Harbor while he was an infant and he had lived
here since then. He had been employed as a bulldozer operator for the
D. D. Cross company and for the past year had been with the public
works department in Benton Harbor. He is survived by his wife, the
former Dorothy Bryant, daughter of Mrs. Dale Bryant and the late Mr.
Bryant, when he married December 8, 1941, and two children, Donna Jean
and Sandra Carol, at home. Also surviving are two brothers Charles of
Chicago, and Paul, of Benton Harbor, and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Jacobs,
of Niles, and Mrs. John Martinowich, of Benton Harbor. The body was
taken to the Florin Funeral Home, where friends may call. Funeral

Fitzgerald, Margaret nee Kerran-Niles
Daily Star-29 Jun 1892: "Mrs. Patrick Fitzgerald, residing on
State street, West Niles, was taken suddenly ill about 7:45 o'clock
last evening and died twenty minutes after. She had convulsions
and suffered from stomach trouble. A husband and two sons are
left. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from
St. Mary's church, and the remains will be interred in Calvary cemetery
on the West Side." Niles Daily Sun-29 Jun 1892: "Sudden
Death Mrs. Patrick, living on State street, died last evening very
suddenly from disease of the heart. After eating supper with the
family, she arose from the table shortly after being taken with what
proved her final illness. In a few minutes after becoming faint

o'clock at the home of his father, in west Niles, after a lingering
illness with tuberculosis. The deceased was born here August 11,

Republican-09 Jul 1903: "Patrick Fitzgerald Old Resident of Niles
Died Saturday Evening. Patrick Fitzgerald, an old resident of
Niles, died Saturday evening at his home on north State street.
His death was due to senile gangrene and organic heart disease.
Mr. Fitzgerald has been a sufferer from gangrene for a number of
years. Recently his leg was amputated in hopes of stopping the
advance of the disease. The deceased was about ninety years old
and has lived in Niles about fifty years. He is survived by his
son, William, another son, Patrick, having died a few weeks ago.
The funeral was held this morning at St. Mary's chruch and the remains
were interred in Calvary cemetery, Rev. Fr. Cullinane
officiating." Niles Daily Star-06Jul 1903: "To His
Reward. Patrick Fitzgerald, a Long-Time Sufferer Passes
Away. Patrick Fitzgerald, a well known and respected pioneer
resident of niles, who has been a great sufferer for the past several
weeks, died Saturday afternoon about 5 o;clock from blood poisoning,
which resulted from amputating his left foot, which was rendered
necessary by gangrene. The deceased was born in Ireland 72 years ago,
and bade farewell to his native hills about forty years ago, coming
almost directly to Niles upon landing in this country. The
deceased was the parent of four children, only one of whom, William
Fitzgerald, who is a section foreman on the Michigan Central, survives
him. The wife of the deceased, who was a most estimable lady,
passed away in 1891. Fraternally Mr. Fitgerald was identified
with the Catholic Knights, under whose auspices the funeral was held
from St. Mary's church this morning at 9 o'clock. In terment took

Flynn, Maude nee Brant -Maude Flynn’s obituary was carried in the South Bend Tribune
on 13 Jul 1968 and reads: “Mrs. Maude Flynn Mrs. Maude Flynn, 82, of 1242
McCartney Dr., died at 12:55pm yesterday in Memorial Hospital. She was born
Aug. 3, 1885 in Berrien County, Mich., and lived in South Bend 15 years, coming
from Racine, Wis. Survivors include her son, Shirley Hutchison, of South Bend;
six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Friends may call after 7 p.m.
today at Orvis Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral
home with retired Methodist minister, Rev. Clyde E. Rusk, officiating. Burial
will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bridgman, Mich., with graveside services at 2:30

Frazier, Bernard, 69 –
(Niles Daily Star – September 5, 1950) Bernard Frazier, of 22 South
Lincoln avenue died at 1:25 a.m. Monday in Pawating hospital after an illness
of 11 hours. Services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Pifer funeral home, with
the Rev. T. M. Greenhoe officiating. The body was shipped to Callaway, Neb.,
this afternoon, and services will be held there at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Burial
will be in Rose Hill cemetery at Callaway. Surviving are his widow, Blanch; one
son, Larry C. Frazier, of Niles, and one sister, Mrs. Louis King, of Callaway;
seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; three brothers, Silas, of
Jasper, Mo., Fount, of Oroville, Wash., and Norman of Everett, Wash., and one
sister, Mrs. Barbara Pond, of Leonard, Kan. Frazier was born at Frazier’s
Bottoms, W. Va., on Feb. 28, 1881, and came here from Lakewood, O., three and
one-half years ago. He was retired.

Frucci, Annita
Vannozzi -Mrs Annita Vannozzi Frucci 88 years - passed
away Christmas Eve- Dec. 24th, 1971 in
Niles, MI. She was born 13 Oct 1883 in
Florence, Italy. In 1899
she emigrated with her family and settled in Iron Mt. MI. There she
met and married Rosario Frucci in 1901. They became the parents of eleven
children. Her parents and siblings would return to
Italy. Rosario and Annita would later move
to Crystal Falls, MI In 1917 they would relocate to
Niles, MI in an area known to the locals
as Dickereel where many other Italian and German families had
settled. She was a marvelous cook and designed many beautiful crocheted items
till her passing. She is survived by six sons - Dominick, Bruno, Frank,
Anthony, Victor and John. Also two daughters, Theresa (Tillie) Olinger and
Veronica (Ronnie) Marrandino. She was preceded in death by her husband in
1941, daughter - Frances Mary Knezevich and an infant son -
Veto. Left to cherish her memory are 31 grandchildren, 54 great
grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Services will be held at
St.Mary's Church - burial in Calvary Cemetery, Niles, MI.

Frucci, Rossi-Rossi Frucci, 68, EX-Railman Dies. Rossi (Rosario) Frucci retired
railroad man died 07 July 1941 in Niles,
MI. He was born 17 Oct 1873 in Filadelfia, Calabria, Italy, He arrived in
the US at Ellis Island 07 May 1896 . He would
work for a time in the cotton fields in the South - not liking the heat - he
joined other Italians in Upper Michigan - working in the Iron Mines in Iron Mt.
and Crystal Falls. He met and married Annita Vannozzi . They would become
the parents of eleven children. In 1917 they located to
Niles, MI. Joining many family members who
had also emigrated to Niles from Italy. Rosario would work at the Towar Cotton
Mill and the Steam Railroad. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, flower
gardening and making wine. He is survived by his wife of forty years and
seven sons - Dominick, Lawrence, Frank, Tony, Bruno, Victor and John. Also
three daughters - Theresa (Tillie) Olinger, Veronica (Ronnie) Marrandino, and
Frances Mary Knezevich. Two brothers in Italy - Frank and Dominick. The body will be
taken to the home at 1007 Dulin Lane where friends may call. Requiem High Mass
will be observed at St.Mary's Church - the Father Joseph Rochford officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Niles,
MI.

Palladium carried the obituary for Julius Fuhrman on 28 Feb 1947 and it reads:
“Julius Fuhrman, 80, Of Benton Township Dies A resident of Benton Harbor
for the past 47 years, Julius Fuhrman, 80, died last night in his home, Maiden
Lane, Benton township, where he has been confined for the past two weeks. Mr.
Fuhrman was born Sept. 5, 1866 in Germany and came to Benton Harbor in 1900. He
had been employed at Benton Harbor Malleable and as a carpenter for the W. A.
Vawters. He is survived by his widow, Rose, to whom he was married 55 years ago
on Feb. 12. Also surviving are six children, Mrs. Augusta Glade and Mrs. Ruben
Chandler, Charles, William, John and Herman, all of Benton Harbor; five
grandchildren and one great grandson. Mr. Fuhrman was a member of St.
Matthew’s Lutheran church where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday,
the Rev. H. C. Haase officiating. The body will be at the Kerlikowske funeral
home in St. Joseph, until 11 a.m. Monday when it will be taken to the church to
lie in state. Burial will be in Crystal Springs cemetery.” Contributed

News Palladium carried the obituary for Rose Fuhrman on 14 Nov 1952 and it
reads: “Mrs. Rose Fuhrman Mrs. Rose Fuhrman, 81, of 589 Campbell avenue,
died at 9:45 o’clock this morning after six months’ illness. Born Nov
19, 1871 in Poland, Mrs. Fuhrman came to this community from Canada in 1900 and
had lived here since. Her husband, Julius, died Feb. 27, 1947. She is survived
by five children, William and Herman Fuhrman, Mrs. Ruben Chandler and Mrs.
Harry Glade, all of Benton Harbor, and John Furhman, of Tucson, Ariz. Also
surviving are five granddaughters and one great-grandson. The body was taken to
the Kerlikoske funeral home in St. Joseph, where friends may call. Funeral
arrangements are incomplete, pending word from Mrs. Fuhrmans’ son in
Arizona. Mrs. Fuhrman was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran church
here.” The same paper carried this follow-up on 15 Nov 1952 and it reads:
“Mrs. Rose Fuhrman Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in
St. Matthews Lutheran church here for Mrs. Rose Fuhrman, 81, of 589 Campbell
avenue, Benton Harbor, who died Friday. The Rev. E. H. Wendland, pastor, will
officiate. A son, Charles W., preceded her in death, Nov. 28, 1946. Burial will
be in Crystal Springs cemetery. Friends may call at Kerlikowske’s chapel
in St. Joseph until Monday at 11 a.m., when the body will be taken to the
church.” Her maiden name was Hauch. She was the daughter of Karl and Marie
