Mowrey, Mary Miller - - Buchanan Record - Tuesday, July 9, 1907
Mary Miller Mowrey was born in Buchanan October 12, 1844, and died June 24, 1907, aged 62 years, 8 months and 12 days.
Her early life was spent at the home of her father, Jacob Weaver, six miles west of Buchanan. October 4, 1862, she was married to Aaron Miller, now deceased, and lived in happy union forty-two years. To them were born two sons and three daughters, John H., Buchanan, Anna L. Kelley, South Bend, Ind., Susie Rouse, Elkhart, Ind., William J., and Katie L. Huff, Buchanan.
  About twenty years ago she accepted the Larger Hope faith as her faith, and lived faithfully to the end. On June 17, 1906 she was married to Hiram N. Mowrey of this place. Every thing seemed to be resplendent with the glories of earth; happiness seemed unbounded until about two months ago, when the loved one was stricken with heart trouble and asthma. With her loving husband always at her side, she bore her pain and sickness without a word of complaint, praying to God and asking Him to take her with Him, where pain and sickness are no more; and the words from her Father's lips will say: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joys fo thy Lord." The funeral services were held from her late home on Main street, Elder J. H. Paton officiating, after which the remains were laid at rest in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Precious mother she has left us,
Left us, yes, forever more,
But we hope to meet our loved one
On that bright and happy shore.

Lonely is the house and sad the hours
Since our dear one has gone;
But oh! a brighter home than ours,
In heaven is now her own.

She came with her parents, Baldwin and Mary Jinkins to Green County, Ohio, when but a few years old, and thence to Pokagon Prairie, Cass County, Mich. In 1825, She was married to Isaac Murphy, April 9, A.D. 1834, and lived with him in blissful union nearly sixty years. To them were born thirteen children, six sons and seven daughters. Six of these, two sons and four daughters preceded them to the future world. The children who survive them are our four sons, John J., Erastus and Isaac Jr., of Berrien Centre, and Rev. These with twenty-five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, mourn their great loss. Mrs. Murphy was a woman of strong faith in Christ and the efficacy of prayer, and when her husband was taken away she earnestly desired to depart and be with him in the better world. It may be truly said of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy: "They were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided." The funeral services were held on Saturday, Rev. H. C. Rose, who officiated at Mr. Murphy's funeral on Tuesday, preached a most excellent discourse from Gal. 6:7, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
   Mrs. Murphy's funeral was a repetition of her husband's in nearly every particular: the Minister, Rev. H. C. Rose of Dowagiac; choir, the Becker family of North Berrien Centre; Undertaker, D.W. G. Gaugler of Berrien Springs; Pallbearers, Thomas Mars, Norman Nims, Jacob Brenner, Henry Hess, Aron Tony and Pallas H. Webster: Cemetery Sexton, Wm. H. Peck.
