Tiefenbach, Ada (Loewen) - - An obituary
for Ada (Loewen) Tiefenbach was carried in the Herald Palladium on 06 Mar 1987
and it reads: “Ada Tiefenbach New Troy-Mrs. Edward (Ada) Tiefenbach, 66,
of Glendora Road, New Troy, died early today at Mercy Hospital Division, Benton
harbor. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Kerley & Starks Funeral
Home, St. Joseph, where friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Mrs. Tiefenbach was
born May 18, 1920, in Saskatchewan, Canada. She was a member of Fairplain
Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, survivors include: a daughter,
Mrs. William (Kathy) Groves of St. Joseph; two sisters-Mrs. Alice Antes of
Coloma and Mrs. Leonard (Edna) Polfus of St. Joseph; and two brothers-Arthur
Loewen of Davenport, Iowa, and Jack Loewen of Benton Harbor.”

Thurston, Mabel- An obituary for Mabel Thurston was carried in the
News Palladium on 26 Dec 1963 and it reads:
“Mrs. Mabel Thurston, of 4202 Highland avenue; Downers Grove, Ill.,
formerly well-known Benton Harbor resident and widow of Capt. Samuel Thurston,
a former ocean and Great Lakes captian and owner of the Thurston Coal Co, here
died Tuesday at 1:35 p.m. in the Shank rest home, Hinsdale, Ill. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Thurston was born Feb. 25, 1878, in
Chicago. She was a member of the First
Baptist church here, was active in the Bethel Bible class of the church, a
teacher in the junior department of the Sunday school and a member of the
Women’s Missionary union of the church.
Survivors include a son, John of Larchmont, N. Y.; two daughters, Mrs.
Constance T. Hinkley of Downers Grove, and Mrs. Marie T. Jensen of Royal Oak,
Mich.; a sister, Miss Sarah Lappard of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren
and two great grandchildren. The body
will be brought to the Florin funeral home this afternoon from the Toon funeral
home, Downers Grove. Funeral services
will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist church. The Rev. Robert Behnken, pastor, will
officiate. Burial will be in the Crystal
Springs cemetery. Friends may call at
the funeral home until noon Saturday.”

Thurston, Samuel J.- An obituary for Samuel J. Thurston was carried in
the News Palladium on 08 Sep 1943 and it reads:
“Funeral Rites Held Today For Capt. Thurston Funeral services for Capt.
Samuel J. Thurston, retired lake and ocean captian, who died Sunday at his
home, 736 Pearl street, were held from the First Baptist church this
afternoon. The remains were removed from
the Slaughter & Hill funeral home at noon today and taken to the church to
lie in state until the services began at 2:30.
The Rev. Ernest L. Snodgrass officiated at the services. Mrs. W. E. Brown was organist. Mrs. Andrew Freitag sang ‘Wounded For Me’ and
‘In The Sweet Bye and Bye.’
Casket-bearers were Valrous Kerry, Harry Markham, Clarence Peterson,
Walton Piggott, Sr., Fred Tuttle and Loyd Zoschke. Out–of-town relatives attending the services
were Mr. and Mrs. E. Jensen, Royal Oak, Mich.; Mrs. Olaf Jorgensen, Berea, O.;
Mrs. Sarah Leppard, Evanston, Ill.; John Thurston, Royal Oak; Mrs. Milton G.
Hinkley, Philadelphia, PA.; Mrs. Cora Howard, Chicago; Mrs. F. B. Schenk,
Chicago. Burial was in the family lot at
Crystal Springs cemetery.”

Charles Tiefenbach was carried in the Herald Palladium on 09 Aug 1992 and it
reads: “Charles Tiefenbach Charles M. Tiefenbach, 80, of Lake Pine Drive,
St. Joseph, formerly of Berrien Springs, died Thursday at Mercy Memorial
Medical Center, St. Joseph. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at
Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, of which he was a member. Friends may call
today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kerley & Starks Funeral Home, St
Joseph. Burial will be in Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Lincoln Township. Memorials
may be made to the Charles Tiefenbach Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Tiefenbach
was born May 29, 1912, in St. Joseph Township. He retired in 1974, after 18
years as sergeant in the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. He was a
member of the Niles F.O.P. Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Brown of
Libby, Mont.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward
of Buchanan; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Priebe of Stevensville; and a longtime
friend, Letha Freehling of St. Joseph.”

Tiefenbach, 88, of New Troy, passed away Tuesday, December 06, 2005 at Lakeland
Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be
held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral
Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Gerald Schroer officiating. Burial
will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph with graveside military rites
conducted by the American Legion Weechick Post #518 of New Troy. Friends may
call from 5-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St.

was born January 7, 1917 in Lincoln Township to William & Minnie (Witt)
Tiefenbach. He attended Evans School, and graduated 8th grade at St. Paul's
Lutheran School before joining his father on the farm. Ed attended St. Paul's
Lutheran Church and was confirmed there in 1931. Ed served his country in the
Army Air Force during WWII attaining the rank of Sergeant. On December 4, 1948,
he married the former Ada Loewen in Glendora, Michigan. Ed and his family
operated a 150 acre fruit farm in New Troy for many years as well as his full
time employment at Whirlpool, from which he retired in 1981 after 41 years. Ed
was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Whirlpool Oldtimers, and a
life member of American Legion Weechick Post #518 of New Troy. He was an avid
fisherman, spending many an hour fishing Hickory Creek or on the North Pier
fishing for perch. His love of farming continued in his later years on a
smaller scale with his vegetable and flower gardens. Ed also enjoyed hunting
and bird watching. Ed is survived by his daughter Kathy (Bill) Groves of
Berrien Springs; his grandson Jay Groves, and many nieces & nephews. He was
preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ada on March 6, 1987, by three
brothers-Emil, Julius & Charles Tiefenbach, and by two sisters-Elsie Priebe
& Lydia Rochau.

Tiefenbach, John H. ------ The Obituary
for John H. Tiefenbach was carried in the News Palladium on 17 Jul 1973 and it
reads: “John Tiefenbach Bridgman-John H. Tiefenbach, 72, of Monogram
Hotel, Bridgman, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Memorial hospital,
following an illness of four days. He was born Aug 3, 1900 in Winnipeg, Canada.
Mr. Tiefenbach had resided in Bridgman 60 years, coming from Canada and was
retired from Casting Service Company, Bridgman. He was a member of the Immanuel
Lutheran church, Bridgman. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jo Ann White of
Benton Harbor; four brothers, august of St. Joseph, Ferd of Pontiac, Mich.,
Edward of Lakeland, Fla., and Carl of California and a sister, Mrs. Rose
Sch,ultz of Benton Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in
the Boyd funeral home, Bridgman. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery,
Bridgman. Friends a may call at the funeral home after 7 this evening.”

obituary for Leonard Carl Tiefenbach was carried in the Herald Palladium on 16
Feb 1998 and it reads: “Leonard Carl Tiefenbach, 83, of Stevensville died
Feb 14, 1998, at Country Manor Care, Bridgman. Private family services will be
held on Wednesday, Feb, 18, 1998. The Rev. Eugene Lewis of Stevensville United
Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Hickory Bluff Cemetery,
Lincoln Township. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 17, at Boyd
Funeral Home, Bridgman. Memorials may be made to Stevensville United Methodist
church, or to Country Manor Care, Bridgman. Mr. Tiefenbach was born Oct. 13,
1914, in Bridgman. He was a lifetime resident of Stevensville and formerly was
employed as a foreman at Whirlpool Corp. He was a member of Stevensville United
Methodist Church and a past member of Southern Michigan Rose Society. He was
preceded in death by his wife, the former Lydia Krieger, in 1994. Survivors
include: a daughter, Joy, and her fiancé, Mike Hartman, of Paw Paw;
sons-David (Jackie) Tiefenbach and Douglas (Bonnie) Tiefenbach, both of
Stevensville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons; a sister, Frieda;
and two brothers-Leo and Alfred. Note: Leonard was the son of August and
Carolyn (Dzick) Tiefenbach.

obituary for Lydia (Krieger) Tiefenbach was carried in the Herald Palladium 0n
30 Jun 1994 and it reads: “Lydia Tiefenbach The funeral for Lydia
(Krieger) Tiefenbach, 77, of Stevensville, who died Wednesday, will be held at
10 a.m. Friday at the Stevensville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in
Hickory Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kerley &
Starks Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the church or
Southwestern Michigan Rose Society. Mrs. Tiefenbach was born Feb. 11, 1917, in
Canada. She was a member of the Stevensville United Methodist Church, the
Southwest Michigan Art Guild Association and Southwestern Michigan Rose
Society. Survivors include: her husband, Leonard; two sons-David Tiefenbach and
Douglas Tiefenbach , both of Stevensville; a daughter, Joy Tiefenbach of Benton
Harbor; a brother, Richard Krieger of St. Joseph; two sisters-Martha Slanker of
Fowlerville, Mich., and Ruth Trussell of Oregon; four grandchildren; and one

Tiefenbach, Lydia (Rock) ------ Lydia
(Rock) Tiefenbach’s obituary was carried in the News Palladium on 17 Jan
1968 and it reads: “Mrs. Lydia Tiefenbach Bridgman-Lydia L. Tiefenbach,
57, of 1004 Wayne street, St. Joseph, died Monday at 11:45 p.m. in the Berrien
county hospital, Berrien Center, where she had been a patient for two weeks.
Mrs. Tiefenbach was born March 1, 1910, in Germany. She came to this country at
the age of one year and had resided in the area for the past 56 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Jo Ann Wenger, of St. Joseph; a brother, Henry
Rock, of Bridgman, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Boyd funeral home in Bridgman. Dr. Herbert Webber,
pastor of the Olivet Congregational church of Bridgman, will officiate. Burial
will be in the Greenwood cemetery, Bridgman. Friends may call at the funeral
home after 7 p.m. today.”

Tiefenbach, Minnie (Witt) ------ Minnie
(Witt) Tiefenbach’s obituary was carried in the News Palladium on 29 Nov
1954 and it reads: “Mrs. William Tiefenbach Glendora, Nov. 29-Mras.
William (Minnie Witt) Tiefenbach, 84, of Glendora, died Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emil Rokau, in Glendora. She had suffered a
lingering illness for the past three years. Mrs. Tiefenbach was born in Russia
Nov. 12, 1870. She came to this community to make her home in 1894. She married
to Mr. Tiefenbach, Jan. 14, 1901. Surviving besides her husband and daughter,
Mrs. Rokau, are another daughter, Mrs. Frank Priebe, of Derby; four sons,
Julius, of Chicago; Emil, of Three Oaks; Charles, of St. Joseph, and Edward, of
New Troy; a brother, William Witt, of Bridgman; two sister, Mrs. Tena Nickel
and Mrs. Alvina Dehiring, both of Benton Harbor. She also leaves six
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren . The body is at the Kerlikowske
funeral home, St. Jospeh, where friends may call until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. It
will then be taken to the Trinity Lutheran church, Glendora; where the Rev. V.
J. Zuberbier, pastor of the church, will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m.
Burial will be in the Stevensville cemetery.”

Tiefenbach’s obituary was carried in the News Palladium on 29 Dec 1969 and
it reads: “William Tiefenbach, 89, route 1, Sawyer, died at 9:15 p.m.
yesterday in the Shoreham Terrace nursing home. Mr. Tiefenbach, a retired
farmer, was born in Russia, Oct. 18, 1880, and had resided in this area for the
past 69 years coming from Russia. His wife, the former Minnie Witt, preceded
him in death Nov. 27, 1954. Survivors three sons, Julius, of Chicago, Charles,
of Berrien Springs, and Edward, of Buchanan; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Elsie)
Priebe of Stevensville and Mrs. Emil (Lydia) Rockau of Buchanan; a sister, Mrs.
Matilda Pufall of Buchanan; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A
son Emil, preceded him in death Nov, 29. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Kerlikowske and Starks funeral home. The Rev. H. V.
Bucholz, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church, Glendora, will officiate.

Tilly, Lois BUCHANAN -- Lois Tilly, 92, of
Buchanan, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2004, at Riveridge Manor,
Niles.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at the
Swem Funeral Home, Buchanan, with the Rev. Thomas Nowak officiating. Friends
may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in
Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran
Church of Buchanan, of which she was a member. Mrs. Tilly was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Russia. She was Miss
Buchanan in 1931. She retired in 1973 from Simplicity Pattern Co., Niles, where
she had been employed for 22 years.
She married "Dutch" Tilly on May 11,
1935, in Baroda. He died on Aug. 28, 1988. Survivors include a son, Dale,
of Buchanan; four grandchildren, Sharon Camp of Niles, Mike Tilly of Buchanan,
Erik Tilly of Lansing and Karin Tilly of New Haven, Conn.; two
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded
in death by a son, Lynn Tilly, on July 11, 2001.

Tiscornia -------- W. V. Tiscornia
- - Dies At Age 76 Former St. Joseph Mayor Succumbs in Tucson - (South Bend
Tribune: May 16, 1968) -
Waldo V. Tisconria; former mayor of St. Joseph and
executive Vice-president of Auto Specialties Co., died Tuesday in St. Mary's
Hospital in Tucson, Arizonia. He was 76. Tiscornia organized
the championship softball and semi-professional softball and semi professional
baseball teams in this area. The Ausco softball team of 1936-1938 was the state
champion. A strong rivalry existed between the Ausco club and the Bendix Corp.
and O'Briwn Paint Corp. teams in South Bend. Tiscornia became
active in city government when he was first elected to the City Commission in
1937. He was elected mayor in 1942 and held that office continuously for 14
years. He resigned in mid-term in 1955 after a controversial battle with the
City commission over an increase in property taxes. The executive
vice-president of Auto Specialties co., was elevated to the President's
position on the death of his brother in 1960. He retired and moved to
Tucson in 1964. Tiscornia Fell in his home in February and had been hospital

Lawrence Trobaugh - Funeral services were held Saturday at Ruchville, Ind., for
former Niles resident, Lawrence Trobaugh, who died suddenly of a heart attack
in Peoria, Ill., where he was supervisor of construction for Wolfes-Jenson
company, of Chicago. Surviving are his wife, Rita, of Chicago, a sone William
of Chicago, his father Jess of Fowler. Ind., and a brother Maurice of Niles.

The News
Palladium carried the obituary of Leadelle Tucker on 15 Mar 1965 and it reads:
“Mrs. William Tucker Sawyer-Mrs. William (Leadelle O’Barton) Tucker,
39, 2635 Ostego, Fort Wayne, Ind., a former resident of Sawyer, died at 12:30
a.m. Sunday in Parkview hospital, Fort Wayne, where she had been a patient the
past three weeks. She was born in Sawyer, July 25, 1925, and had resided in
Fort Wayne the past four years. She was a former secretary at Industrial Rubber
Goods Co., a graduate of Bridgman high school and a former member of the St.
Joseph chapter of the Sweet Adelines. Surviving is her husband, whom she
married Sept. 30, 1949 in Benton Harbor; a son, William Jr., at home’ her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eather O’Barton of Sawyer; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy
(Bernice) Lagerquist of Sawyer and Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy) Wirth of Three Oaks.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Kerlikowske, Starks
& Beatty funeral home, St. Joseph. The Rev. Donald McLeod, pastor of the
United Church of Christ, Sawyer, of which she was a member, will officiate.
