An obituary for Martha (Angolin) Yeske was carried in the Herald Press on 10 Apr 1919 and it reads:  “Death Takes Mrs. Yeske  Young Woman Dies At Hospital-Husband Is Ill  Mrs. Max Yeske of New Troy, formerly of this city, who was taken to Mercy hospital a short time ago, died there yesterday morning, the cause of her death being blood poisoning.  Mrs. Yeske was born in Berrien county, Oct 3, 1889, and 10 years ago married to Max Yeske, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Gus Yeske of this city.  They resided here for some time, later moving to New Troy where Mrs. Yeske’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Angolin, reside.  The deceased is survived by her husband, twin baby girls, Edith and Ethel, who were born a few days ago, and four other children, Mary, Agnes, Walter and Caroline, her parents, a sister, Mrs. Fred Henspeter, of this city, two brothers, Herbert Angolin, of New Troy and Charles, who is in France.  Mr. Yeske is seriously ill at the home of his parents here, having been completely unnerved by the untimely death of his wife and is also suffering with an attack of pleurisy.  Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.”

A few pages before this obituary in the same issue of the newspaper this notice was found:  “New Troy  Mr. and Mrs. Max Yeske are the parents of twins born last Wednesday night. Congratulation.”

The Herald Palaldium carried this follow-up on 11 Apr 1919:  “Funeral Sunday Afternoon.  Funeral services for Mrs. Max Yeske whose death occurred at Mercy hospital Wednesday morning, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Yeske residence, 718 Jones street and at 3 o’clock from the First Evangelical church.  Burial will be made in Riverview.  Mrs. Yeske was taken to the hospital last Tuesday morning and although every care possible was given her, it was impossible to save her.  The twin baby girls, Edith and Ethel were born at New Troy several days before Mrs. Yeske was taken so critically ill and removed to Mercy Hospital where she died.” Contributed by William Brackett  brackettwilliam@yahoo.com

Yeske, Max Robert

The Herald Palladium carried an obituary for Max R. Yeske on 07 Jan 1960 and it reads:  “Max Robert Yeske, 73, route 1, Box 266, Bridgman, died Wednesday at 3:35 p.m. at Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since Dec 15.  A farmer in this area all his life, he was born Oct 2, 1886, in St. Joseph, the son of Gus and Mary Yeske.  He married Louise Mittan, who survives, in St. Joseph in 1919.  Other survivors are two sons, Walter, New Troy and Max, Wintersville, Ohio; five daughter, Mrs. Leo (Agnes) Wisner, and Mrs. Ernest (Caroline) Ott, both of Bridgman, Mrs. Chester (Edith) Ells and Mrs. Ronald (Ethel) Wentalnd, both of St. Joseph, and Mrs. Fred (Mary) Kasischke, Eau Claire; two stepsons, Ernie Mittan, Benton Harbor, and Irvan Mittan, Buchanan; 30 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and four brothers, Roy, Edward and Harry all of St. Joseph, and William, Mesa, Ariz.  Friends may call at the Kerlikowske funeral home, St. Joseph, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.  The Rev Richard H. Selmer, of St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed church, St. Joseph, will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverview cemetery, St. Joseph.”

The News Palladium carried an obituary for Louise Yeske on 28 Mar 1966 and it reads:  “Mrs. Louise Yeske, 71, of route 2, box 305 Buchanan, died Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at her home.  Mrs. Yeske was born in Hartford, Nov. 6, 1894.  She had lived in Berrien county most of her life.  On Dec 30, 1919, she married Max Yeske in St. Joseph.  He preceded her in death Jan. 6, 1960.  Survivors include four sons, Ivan Mittan of Buchanan, Irvan Mittan of Benton Harbor, Max Yeske, Jr. of Steubensville, Ohio and Walter Yeske of Sawyer; five daughters, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Kasischke of Eau Claire, Mrs. Leo (Agnes) Wisner and Mrs. Ernest (Caroline) Otto g Bridgman and Mrs. Chester (Edith) Ells and Mrs. (Ethel) Wentland of St. Joseph; 30 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Kerlikowske & Starks funeral home, St. Joseph.  The Rev. Richard Selmer, pastor of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, St. Joseph, will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.”
