Janes. Belfry on new engine house has been put up. D- Hezekiah Sabin, 1-28-1877, born 12-28-1797, married 5-10-1826 to Miss Mary Martin. Moved to Mich. in 1837, lived in Homer 1 year, Litchfield 13 years and Albion & vicinity 22 years. ME Church, steward Albion College. D- at res. of James Lane, father of publisher of Index, in Convis, on
25th inst., Mrs Elizabeth Drinkwater. She was born in Worcestershire,
England, March 1786. Aged 90 yrs at her death. She was the oldest person
in Convis. Her husband _____ Drinkwater, died in Marshall about 1855.
She died of dropsy. She had no family in America & after death of
husband, found a home in the family where she passed the rest of her
life. Lane & Mumbrue are now associated in Index & grocery &
drug business. Wells & Holcomb are putting a cooler in their market. Messrs. Hezmalhalch & Dolph's engine house & work shop in rear of their furniture rooms, is completed & machinery is running. Lots of business in way of turning, etc. Annual donation for benefit of Rev. N Fassett & family will be at
the Union Hall Feb. 16. D- Home of Mr Busley, 4 miles S of here, burned last Monday, idiotical daughter perished. Fire - Monday, home of F Ansterburg, on Leigh St, 2nd time same house has been on fire this month. Mr Wetherbee presented his resignation as trustee of village. 2-28-1877 Matter between Mrs John Burt & heirs of the estate of John Burt,
in US court, settled by mutual agreement. Mrs Burt received $5000. Each
side pays own costs. D- Mr JC Shaw received word of death of his sister, Miss Maria Shaw of Charlotte. Donation - Presbyterian Church - for Rev. John Gerrish. Index office has been moved into 2nd story of Index building on Main St. Homer Home Talent Drama - Miss Gussie Eslow, Miss Sarah DeBow, Miss Elida Potter, Messrs. insured. D- at Litchfield, Oscar F Crandall, age 60, on 16th inst. Many years res. here & past 12 in Litchfield. Leaves wife & 1 dau. 3-28-1877 M- Mar. 22 by B Fancher at his home, George Burton of Emmett & Miss Marion K Hatch, Homer. James P Dorsey of Stevens Pt., Wis. has received $5000 from Wisconsin RR for loss of his leg during service as freight conductor. Mr Dorsey was born in Homer & his father lives here.GS Agnew - auction 2 miles SE of village, personal property, he plans to go West. M- sentenced for life: at res of bride's father in Homer, March 22, by Rev. LH Corson of Jonesville, Mr CD Burt, foreman of the Index office & Miss Marcella B Richardson, youngest dau. of Elias Richardson, Esq. D- Miss Sarah M Shaw, who died Mar. 6, was buried from the home of her brother, IH Shaw March 8. Born Warren, Herkimer Co., NY Apr 26, 1818, was age 58 at death. Had inflammatory rheumatism since age 10 (Note: from Charlotte paper)4-4-1877 Lane & Mumbrue ordered a soda fountain. Fire Dept. officers - John Snider, chief engineer, Chas. Coon, asst. engineer, SR Allen, foreman, Hook & Ladder Co., BF Goodrich, asst. foreman Hook & ladder. AV Parks, Bucket Brigade foreman, IJ Nelson, asst. foreman Bucket Brigade. Homer Twp. - Benj. F Weatherbee, Sup., Geo. D Cleveland, Clerk, Wm. Beedon, Treas., Wm. Gibson, Justice, Highway Com., Albert H Spaulding, Supt. Sch., Bela Fancher, School Inspector, Henry O Cook. Constables: Elisha T Dorsey, Abram L Cotton, Charles Redfield, Isaac J Nelson. $125 will be paid to GH French if he delivers clear title of a strip of land 2 rods wide, running northerly from N end of Hillsdale St, etc. (Note: think this was for road to cemetery)4-11-1877 JW Ott has taken quarters in the basement of Lyons Block, formerly occupied by JB Brooks. He is taking in all kinds of country produce. BF Wetherbee, our new supervisor, moved from the village to his farm 4 miles S of town. HB Juckett - for many years carrying on Juckett's wagon shop, has laid tools aside and moved on to farm 1 mile E of village., which he bought last season from Hundy heirs. Article calling for a Village Improvement Society to plant trees,
etc. Isaac Frazier has purchased the home formerly owned by JN Westcott, corner Sophia & Everett for $1100. Lewis Waterman exchanged his farm 2 1/2 miles SE of village with Daniel Wheeler, for his farm 2 1/2 miles S of here. Thorn & Bradley have moved store 1 door E of their old stand in building formerly occupied by OW Mumbrue. For sale - bargain- fine large new home of John B Green, corner
Hillsdale & Platt, 2 story, square upright with large windmill &
woodhouse, one of biggest dwellings here. 2 ½ lots, call Edward H Ink,
Albion. Mrs Fancher & Mrs French went to Chicago - Woman's Board of Foreign Missions. McCormick Reaper is on display on Sophia St. For sale - fine new home of Mrs Mary Pease, N side of Main, offered
several hundred dollars below cost. It is nearly new and well finished
with barn. TS & ET Dorsey leased store formerly occupied by Thorn & Bradley. They will carry groceries & have a restaurant. D- suicide - John Moss, over 40 yrs. res. of county, and brother-in-law to Philander Brooks, of Clarendon, shot himself at home in Convis last Monday. M- at res. of bride's brother, David A Melindy, in Milwaukee, Apr. 26, Geo. Westcott of Homer & Miss Sarah E Melindy of Milwaukee. D- in S Albion, Apr. 26, Juddy, son of James H & Josephine E Thompson, age 2y,5m,10d. Tekonsha held its first corporation election last Monday. D- in Charlotte, Mar. 27, Fannie, youngest dau. of Daniel & Mary
Cook, of Riverside, Mich., age 13 yr. M- in Marshall, on 2nd inst. at res of bride's father, by Rev. LD Palmer, Henry O Cook of Homer and Miss Libbie A Ingersoll, eldest dau. of Geo. Ingersoll of Marshall. Uptown telegraph office has been discontinued and Mrs Remmel, who so
long & faithfully ran it, is seeking another location. Her friends
will regret her leaving. D- in Clarendon, May 11, Mrs Joseph Gallant, about age 45. Has the township of Homer converted the new cemetery into a hog pasture? Let the proper authorities see to it. My wife, Isadore Clark, having left my bed & board without any
just cause, I therefore forbid all persons harboring or trusting her on

RC Jones has exchanged his house on Hillsdale St. with R Rosecrantz for his house on Hamilton St. Street commissioner Berger is at work on improving streets. S Webster
has received a layer of gravel, etc. M- May 27 at Pres. parsonage, by Rev. John Gerrish, George E Dunton & Etta Harrington, both of Eckford. M- at home of bride's father here May 31 by Rev. A Hunsberger, Henry Tompkins of Litchfield & Miss Victorine Gerow of Homer. Fire - the 30th at LD Bradley's home, corner Webster & Adams. Hook & Ladder Co. put it out quickly. Council is to procure a bell for the engine house. Andrew Dorsey leased old red shop around the corner where he is ready for work in wagons & carriages. Sheriff sale - lands, etc of Thomas B Isham, lots 237 & 243. 6-20-1877 10,000 eels were placed in Homer Lake last week. M- in Homer June 19 by Rev. Gerrish at home of ID Masten, Esq., Geo. W Sweeney of Norwell, Jackson Co, & Mrs Emma L Masten of Homer. Geo. Heplar, old res. of southern part of Homer Twp. attempted suicide Mon. last week, by cutting his throat & hanging. He was temporarily insane. D- Victor Swart on the 6th inst. at Plymouth, Ind. M- at ME parsonage in Litchfield, by Rev. Hunsberger, on June 12, Henry Dennis & Miss Emma Butts, both of Butler. GJ French, Secy. D- at home 4 miles SE of Homer, on 21st, Elizabeth C., wife of Frank H Smith, age 30 yrs. Cheapest place yet offered for sale in Homer is CA Barnum's on corner Sophia & Everett. 26th inst. by Rev. LH Corson, WG Doty, Esq. & Miss Kate Westcott. Scholars of Union School gave a silver pitcher & goblets to Prof. Bunnell. Bids for town house - Clarendon. D- in Albert Lea, Minn., the 18th inst, Mrs. Robert Williams, age 63, formerly Mrs. Gideon Marlett of Eckford & niece of the late Henry Cook. D- Edward, son of George Budlong, drowned in grandfather's mill race in Eckford, Tues. at age 4. School board meeting - praise for HA Bunnell, 6 yrs as principal
& his wife. Also Miss Anna Wood & Miss Kate Westcott. Following

Beach of Perrysburg, Ohio. D- in Homer the 14th inst., Mrs Eliza Gibbs, widow of the late Joseph Gibbs. Age 66. Watson & Hess from Benton Harbor have leased building on Sophia- 2nd door N of Exchange Bank, where they will manufacture springs for beds. Probate Order - Eliza Gibbs, Philo Gibbs, Admin. Council ordered a 400 lb. bell. M- at Chas. Mumbrue's home on 8th inst. by Rev N Fassett, Henry C Hart & Mrs Neama Walker, all of Homer. Thos. R Wilcoxson has resigned the principal's job. D- July 21 at home of her mother, in Homer, Agnes A Brown, age 18yrs.

D- Horace Christian of Eckford - found dead in a field on Sunday. He was kicked by a horse. 8-15-1877 New fire bell is up - it is in the key of D. M- by Rev. RF Church has moved from Post Office to Geo. Westcott's store. D- little son of Wm. Peak, section foreman on Air Line was run over & killed last Friday by the cars. Reynolds of Butler & Mrs Flora E Carmichael of Homer. D- Mrs E Steed of Eckford, Monday last. WJ Webster sold his 25 acres 1 mile S of Homer to AT Brooks for $2500. D- in Vermontville, the 18th inst, dau of Dr & Mrs CJ Lane, age 5 mo. Miss Beach has resigned as primary teacher. Miss Ida Hulton was appointed in her place. Prof. HA Bunnell left for Carthage, Mo. D- 3yr old child of Henry Creiger & wife in accident with a wagon on the Brockway farm. 9-5-1877 M- in Homer Aug. 30 by Rev N Fassett, Walter Sharp & Miss Alice M Hezmalhalch, both of Litchfield. Watson & Hess (Bed bottoms) have removed to Quincy. D- Mrs Mary Wooley, of Milwaukee, dau. of the late FW Sherman of
Marshall, at Milwaukee Aug. 26. She was wife of James Wooley, formerly

last week. Mr & Mrs AH Darrow of Chicago are in town visiting at the paternal mansion. E Henderson will open a store with Gent's Clothes. Geo. Peppett & family moved to Jackson. D- Sept 27, Merritt R Wright, age 23, only son of Royal P & Irena Wright, formerly of Homer. Died in Elkhart Co., Ind. Mrs HA Bunnell left to join her husband at Mo., accompanied by her brother Geo. New bakery - JW Lander - in the old Green Mountain House. Probate order - estate of Archillus Sine, of Homer. ZP Eslow, Admin. CF Collins & family of Ludington have returned to Homer where he is to take up his future abode. Albert V Fisher husked 41 bushels of corn for Volney Gibbs one half day, plus tied up stalks and did chores. 11-7-1877 Rumor has it that Osborn House has again been sold & leased& will be opened again soon. Publisher of Index changed to Lane & Banford. OW Mumbrue of Lane & Mumbrue has sold his interest in Index,
grocery, & drug business to JJ Banford, taking in exchange,
Banford's fine harness shop, said to be the best in the county. MW Hatch, after 10 yrs in drug business in Homer, has sold business to CF Collins, late of Ludington. RF Church jewelry has a big watch sign. CD Burt, after 5 yrs. with the Index, has resigned to take charge of
Mumbrue's Harness Shop. M- at Presby. parsonage by Rev. Gerrish, on 15th ultime, Charles Lewis & Addie Wait, both of Eckford. Rev. J Gerrish, after 12 yrs., resigned as of December. John Ott has started a hoop factory on N Sophia - running day and night and employing 15-20. HD Lee has a broom factory on N side public square and makes 50-100
per day. M- at res of Chas. White, Esq., in Marshall on the 19th by Rev. A Hunsberger, Geo. Warren Ackerson of Marshall & Miss Elvie A White, Marengo.
