ALBION

ATHENS
Athens Fountain Circa 1900

The beautiful iron and concrete
fountain stood for many years at
the corner of Capitol Ave.
(now M-66) and Burr Oak streets. 

It was later replaced by a field
stone fountain with an Indian head
plaque on the side.  It was removed
in the late 1980's.

BATTLE CREEK
Drum & Bugle Corp, Custer Post, American Legion

This photo is of the Drum and Bugle Corps of the Custer Post, American Legion.
This is the same drum and bugle corps that went to the American Legion convention
in Paris France the same year to march under the Arch De Triumph.
 This photo was taken in August of 1927 after a parade in Jackson where they, for
the 6th time, won first prize in the state.


The members are as follows:

Top row (left to right) - George A. Dorman, William A. Heinrich, Richard P. Leslie,
Allen F. Hattendorf, Warren F. Peterson, Loyd A. Imhoff, and Edgar A. Reid.


Middle row (left to right) - Harold H. Bauer, William S. Smart (director), William S. Carpenter,
Lester B. Mellen, Howard S. Wetmore, Donald S. Robbins, Bert D. Beardsley, and
Theophil C. Heidenreich.


Bottom row (left to right) - Roy S. Westerman (drum major), Harlo R. Hollenbeck,
Harry G. Krugh, Arthur D. Zaruba, Chris B. Stone, Donald J. Kenyon, Famen B. Foster, J.
Frank Haughey, and George W. Westerman (drum major).


Dr. S. M. Fowler, drill master of the corps, was not present when this picture was taken.

This scene from Paris, France is of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps
of Battle Creek, Michigan at the National Convention in Paris, France in 1927.

From real-photo postcard appear to be from the
early 1900's.  It was sent to the Calhoun
County Genealogical Society after they ended up
in the collection of the Pierce County, WI 
 Historical Association.  The cards are addressed
to the McClellen Family of Gladstone, MI from a
"Mrs. Phelps."  It were never mailed.
