MARENGO TOWNSHIP
Brief History of MARGENO |
Named for Napoleon's horse at Waterloo. The first land entries were by Seeley Neal, Asahel Warner, Elijah Crane and A. Dustin in 1831. Seeley Neal had 10 children and his house was the first to be built in the township. Early township officials: Seeley Neal (supervisor, assessor, highway commissioner), Harmon Neal (clerk, treasurer, constable), George W. Dryer (justice of the peace), Alfred Kellam (assessor), Reuben Abbott (assessor), Joseph Ames (highway commissioner), and Benjamin Wright (highway commissioner). |
