The City of Sault Ste Marie Ordains Section 1. The North half of the Cemetary known as Maple Ridge is hereby declared to be public burial grounds, public in general. Section 2. The city council shall designate suitable lots in the said cemetary for the interment of deceased strangers, and paupers. Section 3. On application to the commisioner of cemetaries with satisfactory proog that the deceased left no means with which to pay funeral expenses the corpse shall be buried at the expense of the city. Section 4. The commisioner of cemetaries shall have complete charge
of said cemetary, and it shall be his duty. Section 5. Any person wishing to purchase a lot, half lot, or single grave in said cemetary may do so by paying to the commisioner such sum as may be fixed by the mayor and recorder in the same manner as deeds of the city are ordinarily executed. Section 6. The money received by the commisioner for lots as provided in the last section shall be provided by him, immediately paid over to the city treasurer and such money shall constitute a fund by itself, to be used, under direction of the council in keeping to repair said cemetary. Section 7. it shall be the duty of every undertaker or other person acting as such, having in charge the interment of any deceased person in said cemetary to deposit with the commisioner of said cemetaries a certificate from the attending physician of the deceased, or in case no physician was in attendance, from the city physician called by such undertaker to make examination, into case, stating all the particulars as to the name, age, sex, nativity, social condition, manner of death or character of the disease of the deceased person, which said certificate in blank shall be furnished to any undertaker or other person applying therefore to the recorder and it shall be the duty of said commisioner to keep a register, to be provided by the city, of all persons buried in said cemetary, giving in alphabetical order the name of the deceased, the number of the lot in which the body was buried together with a transcript of the certificate furnished in the case. Said register shall be kept in the office of the recorder. Section 8. No person shall commit any trespass by destroying, injuring or defacing any grave, vault, tombstone, monument, enclosure, building, fence, basin, foundation, sent flower, shrub, or other thing in or about or belonging to said cemetary. Section 9. Any violation of or failure to comply with the provisions of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars and costs, or in default of payment there of such fine and imprisonment for a period of not to exceed ninety days, or by both such fine and imprisonment is the descretion of the court. day of July, A.D. 1888.

certify that the foregoing ordinance No. X was adopted by the council of said
city on 2d day of July, A.D. 1888 and by me presented to the Mayor for his approval
on the 3d day of July, A.D. 1888, that said Ordinance No. X was approved by
the Mayor on the 3d day of July, A.D. 1888, and was returned with his approval
