Vital Records From Newspapers: Marriages

These records have been transcribed from microfilm copies of early Michigan newspapers. New records will be added as they are transcribed. All records are recorded as is, including mispellings and unusual punctuation, to give the researcher a feel for the original. Since the original newspapers were in varying states of preservation when they were microfilmed, quality of the microfilm copy varies. If you would like to donate transcriptions to this page (pre-1927, please, due to copyright restrictions), please send an e-mail to the coordinator.

On Saturday evening, 16th inst., occurred the marriage of Charles E. Seymour and Miss Esther L. Launderville, daughter of Mrs. Peter Launderville. The ceremony, which was a private one with only the immediate relatives and a few intimate friends of the contracting parties being present, was performed at the Episcopal Church Parsonage, at 7:30 o'clock, Rev. P.T. Rowe officiating. The party immediately returned to the residence of the brides's mother, 13 Ferris street, where an elegant wedding supper awaited them. While the festivities of the occasion were at their height, the sound of music was heard on the street, and upon investigation the Sault Brass Band was discovered in front of the house serenading the newly married couple. This was a graceful compliment on the part of the members of the band and was greatly appreciated by the recipients of the favor, the more so from the fact of its being the first serenade given by the band since procuring their new instruments. The boys were invited inside and treated to a share of the wedding feast. The groom is well and favorably known in this city and has a host of friends who wish him well. He has been connected with the Democrat for a number of years and at the present time is foreman of the office. The bride belongs to one of the oldest families and the number of useful and elegant presents received from her many friends is sufficient evidence of the esteem in which she is held by them.

The young couple start on their matrimonial journey with the brightest prospects and with the best wishes of their friends. May they enjoy a long and happy wedded life, say we.
