I want to thank Ed Gaulin for submitting the following and starting off this page. FROM: "Edward H. GAULIN" EHGAULIN@worldnet.att.net The following is a list of the vessels built in the shipyard of a French Canadian, Louis-Elie GAULIN (aka Lewis Elias GOLER), at Gravelle Point, Cape Vincent, NY after about 1830. Cape Vincent is located on Lake Ontario at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. The list of his ships may be imperfect. Most were schooner rigged (exceptions are noted) and the first master's name is given following the name of the vessel. Henry (John DAVIS) V. LeRay (John DAVIS) Hannalt (Peter INGALLS) O. P. Starkey (Peter INGALLS) L. Goler (LUCAS) Victor (RIPLEY) Free Trade (SHATTUCK) Chief Justice Marshall (EDIE) Merchant (a brig) (T. PHEATT) Henry Crevolin (BELISLE) John E. Hunt (Peter INGALLS) Napoleon (CROUCH) Merchant (J. HARRIS) Amelia (SHATTUCK) Roscoe (SHATTUCK) Potomac (SHATTUCK) Iowa (a brig) (SHATTUCK) Eliz. Goler (a sloop) (CUMMINGS) Patrick Henry (W. E. INGALLS) Montezuma (SMITH) Troy (ALLANSWICK) Globe (Lewis GOLER) Charles Smith (W. E. INGALLS) Algomah (READ) Silas Wright (FULLER) Port Henry (J. JARVIS) Lewis E. Goler is said to have built several other vessels, but he was probably out of business by the time they were laid down: St. Nicholas (propeller) (LITT) T. H. Camp (a steamer) (Wm HORTON) Can anyone identify any of these vessels or masters. I am especially interested in the specifications and disposition of the ships. Thanks in advance.
