were found with papers in a family Bible that belonged to Eula Vincent, a
daughter of Wilfred Monroe Vincent. He married Polly
Austin
, daughter of Jotham Austin,

and died June 1886 at age 86. Levi Vincent resided at Allen’s Corners,
Shefford (now Brome) Co., Quebec. In 1834 he settled in Henrietta, Lorain Co.,
OH.
An obituary from the local paper gives some
details of her life: “Vincent died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Candace Close, in Kipton, OH Friday 14 December 1888, Mrs. Polly Austin,
aged 84 years. She was born in Canada and with her family came to Ohio and
settled in Henrietta in 1837 and lived there until 1884 when they moved to
Kipton, where her husband died in June 1886. She was the mother of 11 children,
8 of whom remain to mourn the loss of a loving and beloved mother. She was the
mother of Ralph Vincent of this place.” She was born 21 March 1805.
She died 14 December 1888 Kipton, OH, at age 83.

or Vermont; He was aged 16 in the 1850 census of Lorain Co., OH; married Adell C. Daley

Co., OH; died 17 October 1912 at age 78. Thatcher Vincent served in
the 43 Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, enlisting at Oberlin, OH in the
fall of 1861. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant of Company H on 4 October
1862. He was discharged 12 December 1863. He applied for a pension 27 December
1898, aged 65, a resident of near Olathe, Johnson, Co., KS. Another application
was made 4 January 1909. He described himself at the time of enlistment to be
five feet, eight inches tall, light complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. His
occupation was farmer. His widow Adell C. Vincent applied for her widow’s
pension on 28 July 1913 from Ohio. (See Ralph Vincent # 373 for a photo where he

In
the 1850 Henrietta Township, Loraine Co., OH census Eleazer Vincent's birthplace
was Canada. Included in the family was Ester Vincent, age 23, Horace Vincent,
age 3, and Edward Vincent, age 2. In a family Brown family genealogy Eleazer
Vincent's family is described "Robert G. Vincent, b. 1852, son of Dr.
Eleazer Vincent and ESTER COLTON. Eleazer was the son of Levi Vincent, who was
born in N. Y. State and d. in Loraine Co., OH aged 92. Eleazer was a graduate M.
D. from Cleveland, O. Levi had a brother John-From Robert G. Vincent, Aug,
1933."[10]
Considerable detail on Eleazer Vincent's family was recorded in the narrative by
Marcia Joanne (Hopkins) Wittmer:
Eleaser the first child was born in 1823 and was
married to Esther Colton of Camden Ohio with a wedding at her home. They moved
to Indiana for a short time and returning to Henrietta where his wife died
leaving him four boys. Horace, Edward G., Robert and William M. His second
marriage to Harriet Lamson one daughter Alice was born but died in infancy.
Eleaser died at Henrietta in 1866. Horace Vincent was born Feb. 13, 1847 and was
married to Alice Graves in 1868 to them were born eight children, Mae, Nellie,
Orie, Marion, Milicent, Billie, Dottie and Grace. They are living at Ord,
Nebraska. I could get no answer to letters of information from them. Horace
Vincent died in January 1906. Edward H. Vincent born Feb. 22, 1849 was married
to Ida Sherman in 1875(;) six children were born to them Julia, Lula, Bertha,
Clyde, Mable and Alfred. Mable born in 1885 and Alfred in 1887 both died the
same year they were born. Julia born in 1876 was married to Elic Haggart had two
children Pearl and Grace. Lula born in 1878 married to Allen Dewitt-- have two
children Wilson & Lenore. Bertha born in 1880 married to Truman Smith have
three children Vernon, Esther and Hallie. Edward Vincent's first wife died in
Nebraska in 1905. He was married the second time in 1908. His present home is at
Charlotte Michigan. Third son Robert G. was born Feb 25, 1851 was married to
Effie Jackson in 1873 and six children were born to them. Alice, Earnest, Carl,
Clara, Floyd and Lester. His home is in Michigan. Fourth son William M. Vincent
was born Aug 29, 1853 and was married to Emma Harrison at Florence O. Oct 11,
1874 to them four children were born. Claude, Alta, Harry and Ila. Claude was
born at Henrietta Dec 17, 1875 and was married Jan 1, 1899 at Charlotte,
Michigan to Agnes Parlow and they have three children. Grace, Marion and
Geraldine. Claude lives near his father at Charlotte, Michigan on a farm and is
a prosperous farmer. His wife was so badly burned by her clothes catching fire
that she was laid up for many weeks. She has nearly recovered now. Harry the
second boy was born at Chester Mich. March 7 1886 and was married to Elsie
Schnurr Aug 23, 1911 at Nashville Mich. They had one son Harry E. born Dec 8
1915 and died Dec. 10 the same year. Alta Vincent was born June 18, 1882 and
having reached the age of 19 years was taken sick of Typhoid Pneumonia Died Mch.
26, 1901 and her sister Ila, preceding her with the same disease died March 23
1898 at the age of eight years. Harry Vincent resides at Monroe, Michigan is
serving his fifth year as telegraph operator for the Michigan Central R. R.
In the 1860 Census for Lorain County, Ohio an Edward Vincent,
aged 11 born in Ohio was enumerated with the family of Jeremiah Butler, born in
New York and Mary Butler born in Canada East. In a family genealogy[11]
Eleazer Vincent’s family is described ‘Robert G. Vincent, b. 1852, son of
Dr. Eleazer Vincent and ESTER COLTON. Eleazer was the son of Levi Vincent who was b. in N. Y. State and d. in Lorain
Co., Ohio aged 92. Eleazer was a graduate M. D. from Cleveland, O. Levi
had a brother John

Eleazer C. Vincent was a resident of Bear Lake, Van Buren
Co., MI in 1864 when he was mentioned[12]
in his son Horace C. Vincent’s pension application (dated 11 January 1881) as
his doctor treating him for a gunshot wound received near Atlanta, GA while a
soldier in the Civil War. There is a medical certificate signed by E. C.
Vincent, MD. In 1865 Eleazer C. Vincent was a Justice of the Peace[13]
for the Township of Columbia, Van Buren Co.

He married about 1909 (2) Emma C. ______. In the 1880 census for Chester Twp., Eaton Co., Michigan the family is
found with his name as E. Vincent, aged 29, born in Ohio. His wife, Ida, was 23
years old and there were two daughters Julia E., aged 4 years, and Lwlluella
(spelling uncertain), aged 2 years. He moved to Valley County, Nebraska, where
his brother, Horace C. Vincent lived. In the 1900 Soundex, Edward Vincent was
living in Springdale Township, Valley Co., NE. Included in the family was his
wife Ida M., daughter, Birtha K., and son Clyde L. Enumerated as brother-in-law,
Albettet (sic) Sherman, born September 1847 in New York, age 52 was living with
the family. Also in the Town of Springdale, was Manns G. Vincent, born July 21,
1878 in Michigan, who has not been placed in the family.
In the 1910 census of Vermontville Township, Eaton Co., MI Edward H.
Vincent was 61 years old, a farmer born in Ohio, he was in his second marriage,
as was his wife Emma C. Vincent, age 61, she was the mother of four children
(certainly from the previous marriage), born in New Jersey; they had been
married one year.
Edward
H. Vincent, filed on 18 April 1905 a final notice for his claim of homestead for
the northeast quarter of section 12, township 19 north, range 13 west at Ord,
NE. Harry Smith, Oscar H. Smith, Luther D. Bailey, and Martin Zimmerman were
other settlers who proved his continuous residence (Ord
Quiz Newspaper 21 July 1904). On
19 October 1905 Edward H. Vincent was granted 160 acres of land in section 12 by
Theodore Roosevelt (Patent Book 2, page 283).
On 9 June 1910, an Edward H. Vincent and wife Emma C of Vermontville
Township, Eaton Co., Michigan paid $1500 to Lafe Paist for land in Section
Twelve, Township 19 in Valley County (Deed Book 30, page 438). In her 1919
narrative of the family Marcia Joanne (Hopkins) Wittmer described the family
"Edward H. Vincent born Feb. 22, 1849 was married to Ida Sherman in 1875
six children were born to them Julia, Lula, Bertha, Clyde, Mable and Alfred.
Mable born in 1885 and Alfred in 1887 both died the same year they were born.
Julia born in 1876 was married to Elic Haggart had two children Pearl and Grace.
Lula born in 1878 married to Allen Dewitt have two children Wilson & Lenore.
Bertha born in 1880 married to Truman Smith have three children Vernon, Esther
and Hallie. Edward Vincent's first wife died in Nebraska in 1905. He was married
the second time in 1908. His present home is at Charlotte Michigan. Additional
proof that Edward Vincent was a brother of Horace C. Vincent is found in the
newspaper obituary for Edward Vincent's daughter, Bertha (Vincent) Smith, who
reportedly had visited her cousin, Mrs. Will Hather, "a cousin"
shortly before the death of Bertha Smith. Ida M. Sherman

was born in September 1857.[16]
She died in 1905. Emma C. Vincent, widow of Edward H. Vincent was recorded in
the 1920 census in the Town of Vermontville, Eaton Co., MI., Clyde Vincent was
named her son (actually a step-son). In the 1930 census she was living with her
stepson, Clyde L. Vincent in Vermontville Township, Eaton Co., MI, aged 81, born
in New Jersey.

Vincent, who were son-in-law and daughter of Horace C. Vincent.[18]
In
Marcia Joanne (Hopkins) Wittmer's family narrative, Truman and Bertha Smith were
had three children Vernon, Esther and Hallie Smith. In an obituary from the Ord
Quiz--Mrs. Truman Smith Dead. Mrs.
Truman Smith, 44 of Arnold, formerly Miss Bertha Vincent, of Valley County,
passed away Tuesday. She leaves her husband and four children (Smith), Esther,
Vernon, Hall and Dillon. Mr. and Mrs. Smith and son, Hall, were in Ord last week
to attend the funeral of their niece, Thelma Mae Smith, and were guests in the
home of Mrs. Will Hather, a cousin. Mrs. Smith complained of not feeling well
and was in bed at the Hather home all day. Friday she was better and returned to
Arnold but became worse and Tuesday a message came saying she had passed away.
Funeral services are being held in Arnold today.

born March 1882 in Michigan according to the
1900 census. In the 1920 census Emma C. Vincent, age 71, widow was living in
Vermontville Township, Eaton Co., MI. Include in the family was the single 37
year old Clyde Vincent, who should probably have been listed as step-son. He was
a farmer. In the 1930 census they were again in the same township, he was a
single, 48-year old farmer; his widowed step-mother was 81.

MI. with the seven children recorded below. In the 1920 census, Robert G.
Vincent was living in Aurelius Township, Ingham Co., MI. He was 68 years of age,
born in Ohio, a farmer; his wife Effie M. Vincent was age 66, born in
Pennsylvania, His mother-in-law, widow,
Septer E. Jackson, age 74, born in Pennsylvania was living with the family. The
children included Floyd S. Vincent, age 28,, Glenn W. Vincent, age 24, Theda M.
Vincent, daughter-in-law, age 21 and son Lester Vincent, age 22.
The family in the 1920 census was within two households of the family of
his son Earnest Vincent, who was living with Edgar Kenfielt, age 56 and Adolph
Vincent, who was named a sister, she was a widow. How Adolph Vincent fits into
this family is unknown. In the 1930 census, he was living with his son Glenn W.
Vincent, he was 78 years old, widowed, first married at age 21. From Marcia
Joanne (Hopkins) Wittmer's 1919 narrative, she lists six children, in one case
listing Clara as a child, the 1900 census recorded a son Clair, and she does not
list the son Glenn Vincent. She describes the family "Third son Robert G.
was born Feb 25, 1851 was married to Effie Jackson in 1873 and six children were
born to them. Alice, Earnest, Carl, Clara, Floyd and Lester. His home is in
Michigan." Effie Mae Jackson
was born in March 1854 in Pennsylvania.

Michigan; He was 2 years old in the 1880 census, that included his middle name
and gave Michigan as a birthplace. He married 23 August 1905, Charlotte, Eaton
Co., MI Ella Mae Phinney, daughter of William Phinney and Sarah Merriam In the
1900 census he was a boarder in Chester Township, Eaton, Co., MI as a servant
for Daniel Phelpe. In the 1920 census he was on the same page as his father’s
family in Aurelius Township, Ingham Co., MI. He was 41 years of age, living with
Edgar Kenfieldt, who was age 56, his sisters was named as Aloph Vincent, age 62
a widow, we have not places her in the family. As a second family at the
dwelling was Earnest Vincent, age 41 and wife Ella M. Vincent, age 40, and three
sons, George Vincent, age 9, A. G. Vincent, age 6, and Chester Vincent, age 2
years and 2 months. In the 1930
census, the family lived in Eaton Rapids City, Earnest A. Vincent was 51, aged
27 when first married, a laborer in a lumber yard, his wife was Ella M. Vincent,
age 40, aged 16 when first married, Children were George S. Vincent, age 20, R.
G. Vincent, age 17, and Chester G. Vincent, age 12, all born in Michigan.

VINCENT born 16 February 1910, celebrating his 90th
birthday in 2000. He married (1) Margaret Miller and had three children: Douglas
Duayne Vincent, Barbara Vincent, and Richard Allan Vincent; married (2) 20 May
1966 Florence (Holley) Swift. They live (2000) in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

Buck. In the 1930 census Glenn W. Vincent was living in Benton Township, Eaton
Co., MI. he was 34 years of age, born in Indiana, and first married at age 24, a
grinder in an automobile factory. His wife Theta M. Vincent was 30 years old,
first married at age 21. Children were Theda R., age 7, Charlotte M., age 5, and
Iva R. age 2 years and 10 months., all born in Michigan. His father, Robert G.
Vincent was also living with the family.

census they lived in Chester Township, Eaton Co., MI where he was a farmer In
1910 he was 34 years old, married once for 10 years, his wife was Agnes A.
Vincent, age 28, sons were Garcia H. Vincent, age 9 and Marion W., Age 8, the
daughter Geraldine was 1 year and 4 months, all born in Michigan. In 1920 he was
aged 44, born in Ohio; his wife Agnes was 37 and children were Garcia Vincent, a
son aged 19, Marion Vincent, a son aged 17 and Geraldine Vincent, aged 11. In
the family plot at Gresham Cemetery, the following is recorded on the
gravestones: Claude D. Vincent 1875 – 23 April 1946. Agnes A. Vincent 1882 to
1931.
In
the 1930 census for Chester Township, Eaton Co., MI Claude Vincent was age 54,
born in Ohio, a farmer, who first married at age 22, his wife was Agnes Vincent,
age 48, born in Michigan, aged 16 when first married, also recorded was Verden
Vincent, nephew, age 9, born in Michigan as well as daughter, Geraldine
McIntyre, age 21, born in Ohio, divorced, age 18 when first married and Vincent
McIntyre, age one year three months, born in Michigan. Also in the 1930 census
the Garcia Vincent family was living in Vermontville Township, Eaton Co., MI, he
was 29 years of age, a farmer, aged 22 when first married, a farmer; his wife
Trellis Vincent was 25 years old, aged 18 when first married; they had a
daughter, Shirley Vincent, age 4 and a son Stanley Vincent, age 11 months, all
born in Michigan. The second son, Marion Vincent was living in the 6th
Ward, Lansing, MI, a tool maker in an auto factory, he was 28 years of age, born
in Michigan, father born in Ohio, aged 21 when first married; his wife was Leola
Vincent, age 27, born in Michigan and their daughter was Audrey Vincent, age 2,
born in Michigan.
The
obituary[20]
for: Mrs. Claude Vincent is found in a scrapbook for Vermontville
Mrs. Agnes A. Vincent, 70, died Friday at the residence, 329 North Main
Street, after a six-year illness. She was born March 19, 1892, at Mulliken, the
daughter of William and Jeanette (Stall) Partlow, and had been a resident of
this vicinity all her life. Her husband, Claude Vincent, a Chester Township

, born 8 December 1915; he died December 10. She
reported that Harry Vincent resided at Monroe, Michigan is serving his fifth
year as telegraph operator for the Michigan Central R. R. In the 1930 census he
was living in Wayne Village, Nankin Township, Wayne Co., MI on South Sophia
Street, recorded as a roomer, age 44, divorced, aged 25 when first married,
born in Michigan a tower man for the railroad; another roomer was the
12-year old Harold Vincent, age 12. Harry T. Vincent is buried at the family
plot at Gresham Cemetery, with the dates Harry T. Vincent, 1886 to 1944.

born circa 1900; died 26 March 1908; at the age
of 8 years. The previous dates are from the Marcia Joanne (Hopkins) Wittmer 1919
narrative. The cemetery inscriptions at Gresham Cemetery place the time 10-years
previous 1890 – 1898.

compiler would be grateful to learn more of these families for a future book on
Ambrose Vincent and his descendants.

Obituary:
Mrs. Claude Vincent
Mrs. Agnes A. Vincent, 70, died Friday at the residence, 329 North Main
Street, after a six-year illness. She was born March 19, 1892, at Mulliken, the
daughter of William and Jeanette (Stall) Partlow, and had been a resident of
this vicinity all her life. Her husband, Claude Vincent, a Chester Township
farmer, died April 23, 1946. Surviving are two sons, Garcia of Port Huron and
Marion of Detroit; a daughter Mrs. Geraldine McIntyre of Grand Ledge, and two
brothers Vern and Glenn Partlow of Lansing. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m.
