Additional Information:
Marguerite Kelly DeRyk was born September 30, 1922 in Flint, Michigan. She was the 4th child of Frank and Stella Kelly of 2526 Lawndale. She left home at a very young age and traveled to California where she lived with her Uncle Joe Kelly who owned a furniture store in Ontario, California. It was while living with her Uncle that she met and married Daryl DeRyk, a Los Angeles police officer and detective. Together they lived in a beautiful home in Tarzana California. When I was 10 years old I visited their home and being a Michigan person I was totally astounded to discover oranges in their back yard. Daryl and Marguerite were wonderful host and they took me to Knox berry Farm. MGM, San Diego Zoo, logging camps, and to Catalina islands using a glass bottom boat. I was very young and very impressed. Marguerite returned to Michigan often to visit her mom and dad and show off her children Merry and Jon. She was a wonderful aunt you would mail you a good book to read and send long and interesting letters. She eventually returned to Michigan permanently where she continued to visit with her family and friends.

A note from a letter to me by Marguerite Kelly DeRyk….about the spelling of her last name:
Marguerite Kelly DeRyk….Some people still put an “e” after my name, as in DeRyke. I know the DeRyk family is from Amsterdam, Holland. Pop DeRyk changed the name from the Dutch spelling….deRicke cause no one could spell it. He is the one who changed it to DeRyk. Yet, even today allot of people add an “e” to the end of it. Signed Marg deRyk. I hope you are as confused as I am. Sometimes the d is capitalized as DeRyke, sometimes not as de Ryk or de Ryk or DeRyke or combinations thereof. For such a small name it sure causes a great deal of trouble. Try searching DeRyk or any combination on Facebook and you will see the conundrum. Kelly D. Wernette, a nephew.
