Sometimes you just need an idea of where to look next.  Sometimes you need to be told of the availability of a resource.  This page should sate your appetite for more research sites.  Not all links will apply directly to Gogebic County, however they will apply to genealogy or history.  Consider the few listed below as the start to what could become a very long page.

Local Level

  Titled as Gogebic Range City Directories 1892-1947, this site has SO, SO much more for the Gogebic researcher.  You do NOT want to miss this one!

  GogebicRoots.com is the home site for the Gogebic Range Genealogical Society.  There you'll find the Ironwood and Bessemer obituaries index.  Guests can still search the obituaries, but paid members have access to the newsletters and cemetery & veterans databases.  Copies of obits cost $2.00 each.  NOTE: GogebicRoots.com is not user friendly for Netscape.  You must use Internet Explorer to access the site.

Genealogical Death Indexing System (GENDIS) - Need a death record on someone who died between 1867 and 1897?  Have a look here.  Search by surname, father's last name, or county. If you're searching for anyone in Gogebic before she became a county in 1886, remember to have a look in Ontonagon. 

Federal Level

  Bureau of Land Management General Land Office Records (BLM GLO)- provides online access to the initial transfer of land titles (land patents) from the Federal government to individuals for the years 1820-1908.

  Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System (CWSS) - Names and records of Union and Confederate troops.

* American Family Immigration History Center - sponsored by the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc.  At this site you can search actual immigration records and/or pay to inscribe a name on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor. 

  Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family History site - The Mormons have their most current International Genealogical Index (IGI) online for you to search.  In addition, their Pedigree Resource file, Ancestral File, and Vital Records Index are online and can be mixed in with a search of the IGI and the US Social Security Death Index.  You can also download their PAF program for free here.
