He had been ailing for several months. The funeral was held at the Catholic church. Deceased leaves a wife and several children to mourn the loss of a good husband and father. Contributed by Sharon Compton Baatz Traverse City Record Eagle December 12, 1999 flag Kazarian, Al Died November 13, 1999 PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Al Kazarian, 79, of Palm Harbor and formerly of Elk Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Fla. He was a summer resident of Elk Rapids since 1959 and moved here permanently upon his retirement in 1975.Al served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was captain of the Highland Park Fire Department for 27 years, past treasurer of Highland Park Fire Fighters Union 355, and member of the Highland Park Fire and Police Retirees Association and VFW Post No. 147 of Livonia. He was past director of the Elk-Skegemog Lakes Association.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Irene; son, Richard (Kathleen) of Elk Rapids; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Kazarian of Torrance, Calif. and Kristen Kazarian of Sherman Oaks, Calif.Cremation has taken place and internment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids. Contributed by Sharon Compton Baatz Traverse City Record Eagle December 20, 1999 flag Kellogg, Herbert W. Died December 18, 1999 BUCKLEY - Herbert W. Kellogg, 82, of Buckley, died Saturday. Born July 24, 1917, in Buckley, he was the son of Philip and Vera (Nash) Kellogg. On Aug. 13, 1938, he married Susie Durham. Herbert served with the U.S. Army in Japan. A member of American Legion Post No. 531 in Copemish, he gave over 50 years of service placing flags on graves at Cornell Cemetery on Memorial Day. A farmer, he also worked at the Traverse City state hospital as a practical nurse. He had been an active member of the Old Engine Show and felt bad when he could no longer work at the show. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Susie of Buckley; a daughter, Rosemary Richard of Buckley; a grandson, Jason Richard of Buckley; sisters, Kathryn Weber of Lake Ann and Marjory Elliott of Ypsilanti; and brothers, Bob (Irma) Dixon of Traverse City, Buell (Ann) Kellogg of Saline, Morley (Jane) Kellogg of Presque Isle, and Roger (Nancy) Kellogg of Canton. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Glen Herbert; and brothers, Murray, Paul, and Jim Kellogg. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be announced and held in the spring at Cornell Cemetery under the auspices of Copemish American Legion Post No. 531. Traverse City Record Eagle Traverse City Record Eagle January 30, 2013 King, Wayne Earle KINGSLEY — Wayne Earle King, 63, passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City on Jan. 23, 2013. Wayne was born in Lansing to Earl and Doris (Funnell) King on March 19, 1949. Wayne attended MSU and was a Spartan fan. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. Wayne was the coach for American Legion baseball teams in Traverse City for several years and was a member of American Legion Post 153 in St. Johns. He was also a bus driver for BATA for a number of years, and he took great pleasure in helping those in need. He liked joking around and was known for his great sense of humor. Wayne is survived by his two sons, Ryan (Dessa) Cosma-King and Chris (Stacey) King; and his daughter, Stacey (Andrew) Hasse. Also surviving are his grandsons, Carter and Maxon King; brother, Doug King; sister, Dawn Frost; nephew, Steven (Jen) King; niece, Cheryl (Chad) Miller; nephew, Greg Frost; niece, Angela (Brian) Hostetler; other grandchildren; and aunts and uncles. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial dinner has been planned for friends and family on Sunday, Feb. 10, from noon to 3 p.m., at Boone's Long Lake Inn, Traverse City. Traverse City Record Eagle December 10, 1999 Konold, Matthew John Died December 7, 1999 TRAVERSE CITY - Matthew John Konold, 74, of Traverse City, died Tuesday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Born July 31, 1925, in Warren, Ohio, he was the son of Matthew John and Bess (Jamieson) Konold. In 1951, in Detroit, he married the former Sally Stonehouse. Matthew graduated from Leelanau schools in Glen Arbor and Michigan State University. He worked with Belfour-Stulen Company for many years and retired as a computer program workshop instructor with Grand Traverse Project. Matthew was an expert at photography and computers. He is survived by four children, Katherine Hill of Ishpeming, Mary Rupert of Lake Leelanau, Ann LaBonte of Traverse City and John Matthew Konold of Kokomo, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Ben and Sarah Rupert, Andrew and Tom Hill, and Abe, Daniel and Bess LaBonte; and former wife, Sally, of Traverse City. He was 42 years old and leaves a wife and five children. He was for some time employed in the store of Jacob Furtsch, but his health became so poor several weeks ago that he was obliged to give up his position, and he has been failing ever since. Funeral services will be held at the family residence, 814 West Seventh street, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. T. Woodhouse officiating. Mr. Kroupa was a member of Traverse Bay Tent 871. K. O. T. M., and of the A. O. U. W. and carried insurance in cash for $4,000. |
