Robert J. Ockert
KINGSLEY — Robert J. Ockert, age
85, of Kingsley, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, with his
family at his side at Munson Medical Center. He was born July 26, 1927, in
Kingsley, to John B. and Alice Mary (Younglas) Ockert.
Bob graduated from St. Mary Hannah Catholic School in 1945.
After graduation Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country from 1945
until 1949. He was stationed, for a time, in Japan.
On Oct. 22, 1960, Bob married Marjorie Rose Clous at St. Francis Catholic Church
in Traverse City. Together they raised one daughter.
After his honorable discharge from the military Bob returned home and helped
with the family farm. He also worked for several years for Bayshore Meats in
Traverse City. After Bayshore Meats closed Bob went to work for Brown Lumber. He
retired from there as a supervisor after almost 25 years.
Bob was an active member of St. Mary Hannah Catholic Church, the men's and
women's club, the church choir and the American Legion Post 436.
Bob loved his garden. He was very proud of it and enjoyed sharing the fruits of
his labor with everyone he knew. He also enjoyed hunting and playing cards, but
his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie; a daughter, Rose (Dewayne)
Belles Jr., of Interlochen; granddaughters, Kimberlee (Nick) Forsman, of
Rockford, and Kristina (Bryan) Keyser, of Interlochen; a great-granddaughter,
Lily Rose Keyser; siblings, Joseph "Jay" (Mary) Ockert, of Kingsley,
Gerald (Kathy) Ockert, of Grand Ledge, Ralph (Zita) Ockert, of Kingsley,
Margaret Lewis, of Kingsley, Fred "Fritz" Ockert, of Interlochen, and
Betty Lou (Dan) Walker, of Lake Ann.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by eight siblings, Ethel
Nickerson, Eleanor Bauer, Leroy Ockert, Beatrice Ockert, Clarence Ockert,
Donaldine Nickerson, Marie Sedlacek and Geraldine Ockert.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8
p.m., with a scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in
Kingsley. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m., with
visitation one hour prior, at St. Mary Hannah Catholic Church. Burial will take
place at St. Mary Hannah Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

American Lung Association.

CARL OLESON, 82, of Glen Arbor, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church; funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. A complete obituary will appear in Monday's Record-Eagle. Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City is in charge of arrangements.

GLEN ARBOR - Carl Oleson, 82, of Glen Arbor, died Saturday at Maple Valley Nursing Home.
Born June 17, 1917, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Carl A. and Lucy (Andreson) Oleson.
Carl was in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1939 to 1947. Two and one-half years were spent in the southeast Pacific during World War II where he received three Bronze Stars for his valor. Carl served during the battle of Guadalcanal and the invasion of Bougainville for approximately three and one-half months; he ran landing barges off attack transports. He was also stationed in South Haven and Charlevoix and at the Grand Traverse light house.
Fishing, hunting and home were his main interests. He was the owner and operator of the Sportsman Shop in Glen Arbor for 31 years. Many vacationers credited him with making their trips successful.
Carl was chairman of the board of education at Glen Arbor prior to consolidation. He was president of the PTA and member of the fire department. He was also chairman of the Fish and Game Committee of the Glen Lake Business and Resort Bureau and of the Glen Lake Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Glen Arbor; a son, Carl Oleson III (Jackie) of East Lansing; three daughters, Sharon (Don) Shaw of High Springs, Fla., Sandra Zemaitis of Grand Rapids, and Candace Oleson of Glen Arbor; four grandchildren, Kim (Greg) Guilbeau, Shannon (Alan) DuBose, and Richard and James Zemaitis; and two great-grandchildren, Ross and Max Guilbeau.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lois, and a brother, Robert.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church; funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Stephen Wing will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.
Memorials may be directed to Glen Lake Community Reformed Church or the charity of one's choice.

RAYNOR CARL OLSTROM, 74, of East Jordan, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
