Traverse City Record Eagle December 31, 1999 Ronald 'Ron' Yahr, Sr. Died December 28, 1999 APOPKA, Fla. - Ronald 'Ron' Yahr, Sr., 61, of Apopka, Fla., died Tuesday. Born in Traverse City, Mich., he moved to central Florida in 1994. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and employed as an engineer for Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Killarney Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Apopka; sons, Ron, Jr. of Apopka, Gary of Sterling Heights, Mich. and Scott of Glenn Allen, Ark.; brothers, Gerald of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Marion of Traverse City, Mich.; sisters, Lucille Dunham of Grawn, Mich. and Karen Yahr of Owosso, Mich.; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Maple Grove Township Cemetery. Contributed by Sharon Compton Baatz Traverse City Record Eagle December 10, 1999 flag Kenneth Dillon Young Died December 8, 1999 TRAVERSE CITY - Kenneth Dillon Young, 79, of Traverse City, died quietly early Wednesday morning at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City after a long illness. Kenneth was born May 5, 1920. He had made his home on Glen Lake since his retirement from business in 1985. He was widowed twice, first by the death of his first wife, Charlotte, with whom he had two children and later by the loss of his second wife, Karen. Kenneth, a fourth generation Chicagoan, grew up in that city, and was educated in the Chicago public schools and the University of Chicago High School. He matriculated at Purdue University but dropped out after the United States entered World War II. He enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Indiana and the USS Bennington, achieving the grade of Radar Technician First Class before being demobilized in 1946. He returned to college and graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in 1948. He is survived by his brother, Bruce, of Cedar Key, Fla.; his son, Kenneth Arden Young, who, with his wife, Anne, own and operate a business in Traverse City, and by five grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle, Michael and Nicole Young and Mark Ingold of Muskogee, Okla. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Ingold. At Kenneth's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
