David Chandler, the son of Sheriff Chandler
Died Yesterday After an Operation for Appendicitis
David Chandler, the son of Sheriff Chandler, died yesterday morning at 5 o'clock from appendicitis at the age of 19 years. The young man became ill last Tuesday and was under medical treatment during the week. Thursday he appeared to be better, but Friday he became worse, and Saturday morning an operation was performed. Unfortunately the young man was unable to recover from the operation, and died Sunday morning.
The funeral was held this morning at 9 o'closk from the residence on the farm nine miles east of the city, in charge of Undertaker Carter. The body was laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery.

Barbara (McMurray) Chapman
Died December 23 1999
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. - Barbara (McMurray) Chapman, 70, of Libertyville, Ill. died Thursday in St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Barbara was born July 28, 1929, in Chicago. A former professional ballerina, she performed in the New York Broadway production of "Carousel."
She was the beloved wife of the late Donald E.; loving mother of John E. (Anamarie) Chapman of Libertyville; and the late Donald (Cathy) Chapman of Antioch; fond grandmother of Patricia, Kristine and Anne; and dearest aunt of Kay, Gary, William, Keith and Sally.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the McMurrough Funeral Chapel, Ltd., 101 Park Place, Libertyville, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Father Thomas Conde officiating. Interment services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 3038 M-88 Hwy., Bellaire, MI 40615.

Chase, Earl Frederick 'Fred' II
TRAVERSE CITY — Earl
"Fred" Frederick Chase II, 79, of Traverse City passed away Jan. 25,
2013, at Munson Medical Center.
Fred was born on May 20, 1933, to the late Earl Frederick and Mary Lou (Nampa)
Chase.
Fred honorably served our country in the Korean War.
On June 23, 1961, Fred married Ruth E. Blue in Redford. His childhood years were
spent between Detroit and Calumet. He also attended Leelanau Boys School and the
Detroit Institute of Technology. He was a retired machine tool design checker.
In his spare time Fred enjoyed boating, woodworking and watching the Green Bay
Packers and Detroit Tigers.
Fred is survived by his wife, Ruth of Traverse City; daughters, Roxanna
"Roxie" (Bill) Becker of Crystal Falls and Charlotte (Wayne) Houghton
of Traverse City; grandchildren, Joe Holman II, Misty Nadeau, Eric (Jessie)
Houghton, Sarah (Chris McNally) Houghton, Alex Houghton, Brittany (Brian)
Maurer, and Danielle Houghton; and great-grandchildren, Cammie Molis, Abigail
and Lucy Houghton, and two little ones coming soon. He is also survived by his
dear childhood friend Lee David of Fort Meade, Fla.
Per Fred's wishes the family will remember him privately. A life celebration
service will take place in the spring.

Daniel J. Chippewa Jr.
Died December 19, 1999
PESHAWBESTOWN - Daniel J. Chippewa Jr., 71, of Peshawbestown, died Sunday at Leelanau Memorial Long Term Health Care in Northport.
Born Aug. 8, 1928, in Suttons Bay Township, he was the son of Daniel Chippewa Sr. and Eliza (Raphael) Chippewa.
A lifelong resident of the area, Daniel was an agricultural laborer and had been employed by Bull Brothers Farms in Grand Rapids. He was a member of Kateri Tekakwitha Church, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, and the National Rifle Association. He loved people and serving as a volunteer. Daniel enjoyed fishing and was very fond of children.
Survivors include five brothers, Albert of Peshawbestown, Russell of Nashville, Tenn., Wayne, of Seattle, Wash., and Venward and Gordon - both of Peshawbestown; and two sisters, Evelyn Felice and Louise LaCroix - both of Peshawbestown.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mabel May, Irene Jackson, and Violet Harter; and two brothers, Ernest and Phillip.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kateri Tekakwitha Church.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church; Father Andrew Buvala will officiate.
Burial will be in Kateri Tekawitha Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
The Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

VETERAN OF TWO WARS
Succumbed to Pneumonia at Lake Ann Last Evening
O. B. Church, a veteran of two wars, the Mexican and the rebellion, died lst night in Lake Ann at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sa. A. Maugerson, where he and Mrs. Church have been visiting. He has been in the Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids several years and intended to return there in a few days, but was taken with
pneumonia and died last night. His age was 80 years. His funeral will be held at Lake Ann Sunday at 2 p.m. under the direction of Undertaker Anderson.

Ida Harvey Clark
Died December 13, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Ida Harvey Clark, 90, of Traverse City, died Monday at Rosegate Residential Care.
Born Nov. 9, 1909, in East Otto, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Shepard C. and Abbigal Harvey. On Aug. 20, 1929, she married R. Stanley Clark, who preceded her in death.
Born and raised in East Otto, New York, on the family farm and later moving to Little Valley, N.Y., she was always a good neighbor and had many friends. She was a wonderful daughter, caring for her parents in their final days, a good, noble wife and mother. A kind and loving woman to all her children and grandchildren; she will be greatly missed.
In later years Ida and Stanley retired to Kenneth City, Fla., living there for several years. When illness and aging came along, they returned to Ellicottville, N.Y. In 1992 they came to Michigan to live with their daughter Shirley and family. Stanley died in 1992 and Ida continued living with her daughter until 1998. When suffering an increasing disability due to many years of dealing with arthritis she moved into Rosegate Residential Care, where she resided until her death. The staff at Rosegate all took loving care of Ida. Her family will be eternally thankful to those loving people.
She loved reading, especially to and with her 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three children, Dale H. (Ruth) Clark of Schoharie, N.Y., Shirley K. (Albert J.) Brant of Williamsburg and Bruce H. (Suzanne) Clark of Lakewood, N.Y.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Edna Harvey, Vera VanDenburgh and Hazel Spires.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday at East Bay Calvary Church with Rev. Kendall Dennis officiating.
Internment will be at a later date in East Otto Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rosegate Residential Care.
Arrangements are being handled by Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.

Howard Dwight Coddington
Died December 18, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Howard Dwight Coddington, 94, passed away Saturday at Tendercare Traverse City after suffering a stroke. He was born Sept. 9, 1905, in Leelanau County to Willet Melvin and Coramae Sophronia (Foote) Coddington.
Howard grew up in Traverse City, graduated from Traverse City schools in 1923 and attended Michigan Agricultural College in East Lansing. At his father's request, he returned home to help run the family business, W. M. Coddington and Son - Tanner and Furrier. With strong business acumen he built the business into the leading fur sales and storage establishment of the Traverse City and surrounding region. Today the business is owned by his son, Dwight, and operates under the name Coddington Cleaners.
From the early age of five, Howard showed a strong interest in talking pictures and film projection when his mother took him to the Dreamland Theater every Saturday night. In the 1930's and 1940's his interest grew into a summertime business of showing outdoor movies sponsored by merchants in small villages and towns surrounding Traverse City and he became known as "The Picture Show Man." After television came to the forefront, he redirected his interest to movie houses and his lifelong dream of owning a small theater. In 1960 he bought and operated the Elk Rapids Cinema. For 13 years he emphasized and booked films suitable for family entertainment and in cooperation with Northwestern Michigan College he scheduled foreign language speaking films for the benefit of students and others.
Other involvements in his younger years included the Lion's Club and First Congregational Church where for many years he was superintendent of the Sunday school. He loved to travel and his wife, Jessie, often jokingly said he had "wanderlust." For over 35 years they spent part of their winters in Florida and traveled in Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Howard was a devoted husband and father whose first love was his family. He never failed to help where he was needed, yet he stressed hard work to achieve one's goals. He will be sorely missed by his family and loved ones.
Preceding him in heath was his wife of 66 years, Jessie Marguerite Sheldon Coddington; two brothers, Hoyt and Homer Coddington of Traverse City; two sisters, Gertrude Fitzmaurice of Traverse City and Clara Sharpe of Howell; and one grandson, David Coddington of Traverse City.
He is survived by three sons, Dwight (Pat) and Roger (Candy) Coddington of Traverse City and Edwin (Benita) Coddington of Denver; two daughters, Alice (William) Beckett of Eugene, Ore. and Connie (Don) Rice of Lansing; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City with Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

INA MARIE COOK, 88, of Delray Beach, Fla. and formerly of Grayling, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Delray Community Hospital in Florida. A retired school teacher and homemaker, she was born Jan. 11, 1911.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Saginaw.

Robert Edward Crambell Sr.
KALKASKA — Robert Edward Crambell
Sr., 82, of Kalkaska, passed away on Jan. 23, 2013, at his home. Mr. Crambell
was born on Nov. 1, 1930, to Clarence and Beatrice (Hunter) Crambell in Okemos.
Bob was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather
who loved to spend his days spoiling his family with his great cooking. He
enjoyed taking adventurous drives, exploring new locations, hunting, fishing and
playing cribbage.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Nikki (Hugh) Wilke, Sharlean
(Glenn) Saxton, Craig (Terri) Crambell, Robert Jr. (Barbara) Crambell and John
Crambell; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews; and
sisters-in-law, Doris Conn and Wanda Tyner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Beatrice; brother, Virgil
Crambell; brother-in-law, Donald Tyner; and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie
Endres.
A memorial service will be held in memory of Bob at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 26, at
the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2470 Beebe Road NW, Kalkaska. A luncheon will
follow at the Clearwater Township Hall, 5440 River St. NW, Rapid City.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association and St.
Paul Lutheran Church.

HOWELL - Dennis Joe Culver, 56, of Howell, died Saturday in Milton Township as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver.
Dennis was a building mechanic for the Lansing Board of Water and Light Public Utilities. He spent a great deal of time at his future retirement home at Torch River.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa R. (Leonard); two children, Chad (Michelle) Culver of Traverse City and Jamie (Scott) Tatman of Lowell; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, Fla., Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing, and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Courtney Ann Culver, Alexandra Lyn Culver, and Emily Jane Tatman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother Timothy D. Culver.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gorsline-Runciman Co., East Chapel in East Lansing.

Timothy Douglas Culver

RAPID CITY - Timothy Douglas Culver, 60, of Rapid City, died Saturday in Milton Township as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver.
Timothy was currently the administrator for the Concord Academy in Mancelona. He resided at Torch River where he summered for nine years previously. He moved from Holt earlier this year.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret M. (Myers); two children, Barbara Jane (Robert) Nulf of Climax and Sandra Kaye Culver of Chicago; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, Fla., Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing, and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Sydney Ray Nulf and Henry Robert Nulf; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother Dennis Joe Culver.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gorsline-Runciman Co., East Chapel in East Lansing.
