Henry A. LaBeau

EAST JORDAN - Henry A. LaBeau, 90, of Central Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at the Havencrest Foster Care Home in East Jordan.
Henry was born Feb. 26, 1909, in Trenton, the son of Jerome and Rose (Navarre) LaBeau. On Oct. 15, 1938, in Trenton, he married Dorothy Gabriel, who preceded him in death in 1974.
Henry resided in Empire for many years where he owned the Friendly Tavern and was chief of the Empire Fire Department. In 1954 he moved to Central Lake where he and his wife owned LaBeau's Grocery until 1968. In 1967 they built LaBeau's Dairy Freeze, retiring in 1974. He was active in the Central Lake community, serving on the school board and various organizations. He was a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was active in the church choir.
Surviving are three sons, Jerome C. (Deanna) and Robert A. (Diane) - both of Central Lake and James H. (Nancy) of East Jordan; eight grandchildren, Craig LaBeau and Kimberly (Cecil) Fernandez - both of Central Lake, Keith LaBeau of Orlando, Fla., Michael LaBeau and Christine Hoose - both of Central Lake, Darrell, Mark and Kurt LaBeau - all of East Jordan; a great-grandson, Bobby Hoose of Central Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Fred, Clarence, Archie, Harvey and Chestley; and a sister Beatrice Boyd.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, where a wake service will be held at 7.30 p.m. with Sr. Celine Goessl officiating. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire, Father Arockiasamy Arulandu will serve as celebrant. Burial will be in Southern Cemetery in Central Lake Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke Catholic Church.

SULO WERNER LAHTI, 87, of Kaleva, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Manistee Heights Care Center in Manistee. He was born Feb. 13, 1912, in
Ontonogan.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva; funeral services will be held immediately after visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be in Maple Grove Township Cemetery.

Dorothy Estel Lanham
MAPLE CITY — Dorothy Estel Lanham,
97, of Maple City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Maple Valley Nursing
Home, with her loving niece, Bunny Lanham, at her side.
Dorothy was born in Boone County, Ind., on Oct. 24, 1915, to John and Mary Agnes
(Hawk) Lanham. She was the oldest of eight children; her siblings were Fred,
Herbert, Ester, Carl, Evelyn, John and Margaret.
In 1917 her family moved from Indiana to the Grand Traverse area to be near her
father's parents. They moved several times before settling in the Burdickville
area.
During her teenage years she worked at the Leelanau schools.
After graduating from Maple City High School, she moved to Manitowac, Wis.,
where she attended college and lived with the Mautz family. Then she went to the
Chicago Art Institute and furthered her education.
Her career began at Rand McNally as a cartographer. During World War II she
worked on war maps for the military. After the war she was transferred to the
non-fiction department where she remained for many years.
In 1958 she built a home in Burdickville and the Glen Lake Workshop, now known
as the Burdickville Market.
She enjoyed Petoskey stone hunting along the Lake Michigan shore and teaching
young people how to polish our beautiful state stone at her workshop. Also, she
specialized in original artwork, pottery, lapidary and publications during the
summer months. During that time she wrote The Petoskey Story, which is still in
print today. She continued to work at Rand McNally Company during the winter
months.
Upon retiring she moved to a nearby house in the woods, where she enjoyed the
peace and quiet. There she continued a limited amount of work as well as
genealogy and volunteering. She worked with the Empire Heritage Group, the Old
Settlers Association and the Commission on Aging Lunch Program in Empire. She
often said, "Life was not always easy, but it was good."
Surviving Dorothy are her brother, John (Nancy) Lanham; sister-in-law, Dorothy
"Dottie" Lanham; brothers-in-law, Bill Tibbitts and Harry Fitzpatrick;
and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will take place. A graveside service will be held in the spring at
Rose Hill Cemetery.

Ruby R. Lannin

TRAVERSE CITY - Ruby R. Lannin, 84, of Traverse City, died Saturday at Munson Medical Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1915, in Kalkaska County, she was the daughter of Clio and Irma (Hauenstein) Rosenburg. On Jan. 20, 1947, she married Francis W. Lannin in Brooksville, Fla., he preceded her in death in March 1990.
Born and raised in Kalkaska County, Ruby was a resident of the area her entire life. For many years she worked as a private house cleaner for various area residents. Ruby enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosile (Timothy) Shaffer of Williamsburg; five sons, Warren (Janet) Clark of Taylor, Mich., Lawrence (Ann Marie) Lannin of Upper Marlboro, Md., Fran Lannin of Maple City, Mich., Edward (Ruthe) Lannin of Traverse City, and John Lannin of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Kent (Arlene) Rosenburg of Kalkaska; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter, Norma Lannin, and a great-grandson, Kenneth Fisher.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to memorial services which will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. The Rev. Scott Bills will officiate.

MAPLE CITY - Olga M. Laycock, formerly of Flint, died Wednesday at Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City. She was 95.
Born in Saginaw, she was the daughter of John T. and Emelia (Heppler) Raupp. She attended Central Michigan College and taught music, which she greatly enjoyed, in the Mount Pleasant and Flint public school systems. On June 15, 1927, she married Kenneth W. Laycock of Ithaca who preceded her in death in 1985. They lived in Saginaw, Kalamazoo and, finally, in Flint, where they made their home for over 40 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan T. (Joe) Williamson of Glen Arbor; three grandchildren, Ken (Jill) Williamson of Elk Rapids, Janet (Douglas) Greer of Boise, Idaho, and Jim (Julie) Williamson of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; four great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Jerry Laycock of Clio.
Olga was an active member of the Woodside Church in Flint, the Woodside Seniors and the Michigan Retired Teachers Association. For many years she served as a volunteer at McLaren Hospital in Flint. Throughout her life she was a gracious lady who practiced gracious living.
Cremation has taken place and private services will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw.
Memorials may be directed to Maple Valley Nursing Home where the quality of Olga's life was greatly enhanced during her final years.

Donald 'Don' Leach
Died December 24, 1999
EAST BAY TOWNSHIP - Donald "Don" Leach, 82, of East Bay Township, died Friday morning.
Born April 2, 1917, in East Bay Township, he was the son of John and Maggie (Champagne) Leach. On Aug. 30, 1947, he married Betty J. Cole.
A lifelong resident of East Bay Township, Don lived in the home he built for over 52 years. A retired carpenter, he worked for Koenig Construction, Comstock Construction, Grand Traverse Construction and Bud Johnson of Suttons Bay. An honest man, Don was a perfectionist and consistent in everything he did. He had a great sense of humor and was a special husband, brother, uncle and friend. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and wintering in Alabama. Don was an ardent bowler and golfer. He served in the South Pacific during World War II in the 39th Fighter Squadron from July 1941 to October 1945. Don was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Cherryland Post No. 2780. He attended East Bay Calvary Church in Traverse City.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two brothers, Howard Leach of Buena Park, Calif., and John Leach of Traverse City; a sister, Julia Johnson of Traverse City; and many special nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willard, Roy, and Ralph Leach; and a sister, Gladys
Ryon.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at East Bay Calvary Church, 2368 Holiday Road, Traverse City; Dr. Kendale Dennis will officiate. Following the service, military honors will be held under the auspices of Veterans of Foreign Wars Cherryland Post No. 2780.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Bay Calvary Church Building Fund.

Russel H. Lee

WILLIAMSBURG - Russel H. Lee, 94, of Williamsburg, died Thursday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Russel was born Oct. 28, 1905, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. In 1938, in Detroit, he married the former Kathryn Larrew.
After graduating from University of Michigan School of Architecture, Russel was an architect for several firms in Detroit, moving to Elk Rapids in 1968. He then worked for Graheck, Bell and Kline, retiring in the mid 1970's. He continued to practice his architecture into the 1980's. Russel was a member emeritus of the American Institute of Architects since 1976. He enjoyed working around his home and sports, and was an avid U of M fan. He also enjoyed living in Northern Michigan. Everyone who knew him knew him as an extremely honorable man who focused on perfection.
He is survived by a daughter, Martha (Arthur) Snyder of Elk Rapids; son, Richard H. (Loretta) Lee of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Hazel Lounds, Doris Sannes and Frances Holt; and one granddaughter, Heather (Matt) Rossing of Redford Township. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty (Dick) Ford of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, in 1982; his parents; one brother; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Daniel Herlein officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

IMOGENE LEFFEL, 70, of Frederic, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A retired auto industry machinist, he was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Clearfork, W. Va.
Services will be held in Roanoke, Va. Burial will be in Myers Family Cemetery in Moneta, Va. Local arrangements were by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling.

AGNES LEMRAND DEAD
Succumbed to Consumption After an Illness of Over two Years.
Agnes Lemrand, eldest daughter of Mrs. Louis Zeek, died this morning at 4 o'clock at 523 Rose street, adter a lingering illness of over two years of consumption, aged 20 years.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the First M. E. church of which she was a member. The pall bearers will be Ralph McCluskey, William HOlmes, Calvin Langworthy, Lee Cunningham, Fred Vlack and Joseph
Ebrenberger.
The funeral arrangements will be under the direction of Ralph Anderson.
In the early stages of Miss Lemrand's disease she was sent to Pueblo, Colorado, in the hope that the climate there might restore her to health, but it proved a vain hope and after a stay of seven months, she returned to her home and among friends and loved ones patiently waited for the end. She will be greatly missed by a huge circle of friends.

The body of Nettie Lingle, who died Tuesday afternoon at the asylum, was taken to Alba, Mich., this morning for burial. The deceased has a brother residing at Alba and her parents and some other relatives are buried there. She was 42 years of age and was a sister-in-law of Charles Johnson of 408 West Ninth street.

DEATH OF GEORGE LOVE
Had been a patiet in the Asylum Since 1892
George Love, a pioneer of Muskegon, a brother of Isaac Love of Elk Rapids, and an uncle of William Love of this city, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon of general paralysis, aged 69 years. He had been a patient in the sylum since 1882. At one time he was a well-to-do business man in Muskegon. His remains are being taken care of by Will S. Anderson until the arrival of his brother from Elk Rapids and friends from Muskegon.
Just about the time Mr. Love died yesterday his nephew, Will Love, left for England, their old home.

Helen Lowery
Died December 2, 1999
FIFE LAKE - Helen Lowery, 68, died Thursday evening at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a three-month illness.
Born Dec. 18, 1930, in Winn, Ark., she was the daughter of Lawrence and Eda (Morris) Waggoner. On June 21, 1958, in Okemos, she married Lloyd Lowery.
Helen grew up in Pocahontas, Ark., and moved to Lansing when she was 15. After her marriage, she lived in Warren and Clarkston before retiring to Fife Lake in 1987. A member of the Walton Junction Sportsmans Club, she was also an avid bowler. Helen enjoyed traveling, flowers and her family.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd of Fife Lake; four children, Gloria (Robert) Slizak of Clinton Township, Fred (Becky) Cribley of Lowell, Barbara Pels of Euless, Texas, and Mitchell Lowery of Livonia; three sisters, Betty Sulcer of Dimondale, Jackie (William) Elya of Fife Lake, and Mary (Gary) Becraft of Fenwick; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Lowery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home; the Rev. Richard Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in Clark Cemetery in Fife Lake.
Memorial tributes may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

RICHARD A LUCAS, 61, of Mancelona and Kalkaska, died Saturday in Shreveport, La. He was born Oct. 18, 1938 in Antrim.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska.
