AUBURN HILLS - Harold Neddo, 82, of Auburn Hills, formerly of Maple City, died Friday in Auburn Hills.
Born April 17, 1917, he was the son of Charles and Clarissa Neddo who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Lloyd and Ward, and three sisters, Lydia, Clara and Lucille.
Harold was a 1936 graduate of Maple City High School and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda of Auburn Hills and four brothers, Clifford of Florida, Clarance (Evelyn) Neddo of Maple City, Howard (Dorothy) Neddo of Maple City and Wesley (Lorraine) Neddo of Maple City.
No services are planned.
Local arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

SANDRA (ACHA) NELBACH, 56, of San Antonio, Texas and formerly of Traverse City, died suddenly at her home Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999. She was born Jan. 20, 1943.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas. Burial will be in Fort Sam Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, Texas.

HONOR - Thomas James Nelson, formerly of Chelsea, Saline, and of Honor for the past 17 years, died Thursday evening at his residence with family members at his side, at the age of 69.
Thomas was born on April 12, 1930 in Melvindale, the son of John and Patricia (Hagerty) Nelson. He was united in marriage to Maxine Joyce Fields on Aug. 4, 1951 at St. Sebastian Parish in Dearborn.
Thomas had worked at St. Joseph's retreat, and was then called to serve the country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. While in the service he worked as a clinical psychologist. After his honorable discharge from the Army he went back to work at St. Joseph's retreat. He had attended Michigan State Normal College where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree. He then furthered his education receiving a master of arts and education from Eastern Michigan College.
He had taught special education in Royal Oak, the Carman Children's Center in Flint, and the Van Buren Public Schools in Belleville. He had also worked for a year with the Detroit Association For Retarded Children. He was very instrumental in assisting the St. Louis School for Exceptional Boys, located in Chelsea, get started in the early 1960's, and served mostly in the school's capacity of educational director.
Upon moving to Benzie County Tom went into business with his son Chris, opening Platte River Printing in Honor. When his boys were younger, Thomas was very active as a scoutmaster in Chelsea. He was a former member of the Platte River Association in Honor, and he enjoyed travelling and reading.
Thomas is survived by his wife Maxine of Honor; son, Chris (Diane) Nelson of Honor; and daughters, Cynthia (Kenneth) Bergman of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Stephanie (Jack) Neal of Palm Coast, Fla. Also surviving are two brothers, David (Jean) Hayes Nelson of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif. and John (Carol Anne) Philip Nelson of Solvang, Calif.; and grandchildren, Erin Kelley and Holly Christina Nelson, and Erik Nelson, Monica Ann, Karla Martine, and Zachary Thomas Bergman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Frederick Nelson in 1973.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Perry Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes in Benzonia. Services for Thomas will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; Msgr. David Gemuend of St. Ann Catholic Church in Frankfort will officiate. Burial will take place in the Champion Hill Cemetery in Honor.

PETER M. NEZKI, 53, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Manistee, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, in Grand Rapids. He was a former radio station owner.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Manistee; the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of arrangements.

Leland E. Niemi
TRAVERSE CITY — Leland Eugene Niemi,
65, of Traverse City and formerly of the Detroit Downriver area, passed away
Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Leland was
born on Sept. 2, 1947, to Eino and Bertha (Nurkkala) Niemi in Highland Park.
He grew up in North Trenton, attending and graduating from Riverview Community
High School, where he met is future wife at the age 15. On Oct. 19, 1968, Lee
entered into marriage with the former Agnes Zahorchak at St. Cyprian Catholic
Church in Riverview.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, 56th EOD.
Lee made his living working with the Ford Motor Company, retired in 2004 and
headed north to Traverse City.
He maintained a close connection to the Upper Peninsula and his family roots
there, visiting often as a child and now returning to spend quality time with
his grandchildren. Lee enjoyed the outdoors and all nature had to offer and
spent time deer hunting.
He found a rewarding position spending time working with kids at the Career Tech
Center and was able to build some wonderful relationships with the students as
well as friendships with the rest of the staff.
Lee was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and will be missed by
so very many.
Leland is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Agnes Niemi, of Traverse City;
his mother, Bertha Niemi, of Trout Creek; his two sons, Brian Niemi, of Trenton,
and Kevin (Belinda) Niemi, of California; four grandchildren, Jocelyn, Vaughn,
Monica and David; sisters, Cheryl (David) Meszaros and Cecelia Brandes; three
nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and other loving family
members and friends.
Leland was preceded in death by his father, Eino Niemi.
Per Lee's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at noon,
with visitation one hour prior, on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff
Funeral Home. The Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will officiate. A memorial Mass at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will also be held at a later date.

William Walter Norton
Died December 19, 1999
EMPIRE - William Walter Norton, 68, of Empire, died Sunday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Born June 12, 1931, in Roger City, he was the son of Marvin and Sally (Hopson) Norton. On July 6, 1957, in Lansing, Ill., he married Ruth Lydia Lipske, who survives.
William served in the U. S. Navy and the naval reserves. He retired from the FAA as an electronic technician and worked on the radar systems at Midway and O'Hara Airports in Chicago. He had a degree in horticulture and he enjoyed gardening, raising raspberries and making maple syrup. William was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor where he was an usher.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, David Alan Norton, Janet Denise (Wade) Feikema and Jonathon Michael Norton; two grandchildren, Raelyn and Kyle; two sisters, Judith Neely and Catherine (David) Lemke; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor with Rev. Bernard Filbert officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church music program in Glen Arbor or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were handled by Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
