Elva DRESSER KELLOGG

Reading Hustler, Hillsdale Co., Michigan, 31 January 1898, p.1.

The Community Mourns
Unspeakably sad was the death of Elva, wife of Brace S. KELLOGG, Friday last at the home on Michigan street, where they had resided all their wedded life.
Thus far this winter Mrs. KELLOGG had enjoyed unusually good health for her and on Wednesday made several calls. Wednesday evening when Mr. K. went home from his business she was happy and cheerful, and exhibited to him some little garments which are always the pride of the expectant mother. About 9 o'clock she complained of a pain in her lungs and in a very few hours there was a fully developed case of pneumonia, involving one entire lung, although she had not the slightest symptom of a cold. Friday morning the disease caused a premature birth and at 3:30 that afternoon her spirit took its flight, the complications being too much for the frail body.
Deceased, whose maiden name was DRESSER, was 35 years of age; was born in Cambria, and that place and Reading had always been her home. She was married to Mr. KELLOGG 14 years ago, and as a wife and mother she was all that one could wish.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the first Baptist church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. E. SEVERENCE. The edifice was not large enough to hold all the sympathizing friends who came to pay their last respects to the loved one. The floral tributes were beautiful. In Maplewood cemetery the remains were laid beside her little ones who had gone before.
Since coming to manhood Mr. KELLOGG has drank deep from sorrow's cup and still it is overflowing. First being called upon to mourn the death of his betrothed, Miss Libbie DRESSER - sister of his life companion; then one by one three household treasures were taken, and now comes the double affliction of parting with wife and babe. Surely there are none whose tenderest sympathies do not go out to the stricken husband and father. He has one child, a six years old lad, left to comfort him.
