Alan M.  Glaza, 50, of Warren, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Martha T.  Berry Nursing Home, Mount Clemens.  He was born August 17, 1955, in Highland Park. 

 

Surviving are his wife, Kim (Caldwell) Glaza; son, Gregory Glaza; siblings, Norma (Gary) Novick, James (Diane) Glaza, John (Colleen) Glaza, Marie Glaza, Robert (Becky) Glaza, and David (Cindy) Glaza; parents, Norman and Beatrice Glaza; and many nieces and nephews.

Alice Madeline (Glaza) Rybak  

October 20, 1918-October 6, 2009

RYBAK, Alice Madeline of Bay City, Michigan.   Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at her residence, age 90 years.   Alice was born October 20, 1918 in Bay City to the late Edward and Martha (Posluszny) Glaza.  She married Ambrose Rybak on November 21, 1936 and he predeceased her in 1990.   She was a member of St.  Hyacinth Church, the Mothers Club and a life member of St.  Hyacinth Rosary Society.   Alice loved spending time with her family, which she referred to as "the love of her life."  She also prayed the Rosary seven times a day for her family and friends.

Surviving are four children: Pat (Ken) Ritter, Mike (Chris) Rybak, Rick (Barb) Rybak and Kay (Brad) Gorr; eleven grandchildren: Larry (Peg), Terry (Laura) Van Zale, Kern (Amelia), Denny Lask, Michelle (Mike) Galloner, Michael (Sara) Rybak, Scott (Meaghan), Patrick, Shaun (Andrea) Rybak, Karissa and Justin Gorr; eleven great grandchildren: Shannon (Tim) Boyk, Kelly Van Zale, Emily, Ben, Bryce, Gannon Van Zale, Keygan, Rylee, Brendyn Galloner, Michael III and Jacob Rybak; one sister, Beatrice Chesney; many nieces, nephews, and friends.   Alice was predeceased by a son, Kenny; four brothers: Leonard (Ruth), Ted (Mary), Emil (Christine) and John Glaza and five sisters: Edna (Frank) Filary, Florence (Fred) Schueler, Ann (Jack) Youngblood, Virginia and Stephanie Glaza.  

 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.  at St.  Hyacinth Church.   Fr.  Edward J.  Konieczka will celebrate Mass at interment will follow in St.  Stanislaus Cemetery.   Friends may call at the church only on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Members of  St.  Hyacinth Rosary Society will pray the Rosary in church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.   There are no visitation hours at the Ambrose Funeral Home.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to St.  Hyacinth Church Renovation Fund or McLaren Visiting Nurse and Hospice.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Beatrice Mary (Terbrack) Glaza

October 31, 1929October 16, 2006

Beatrice M.  Glaza, 76, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006 after a courageous and lengthy battle against heart disease and diabetes.  She was born October 31, 1929 in Sherman Township, daughter of the late John and Cecelia (Booms) Terbrack.  She married Norman A. Glaza November 7, 1949 in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  She was a member of St.  Justin Catholic Church, Hazel Park for almost 50 years and a member of the Rosary Altar Society.  Beatrice was a kind, gentle and loving soul who was quite well known for her incredible homemade bread. 

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Norman A.  Glaza; and six children: Norma (Gary) Novick of Warren; James (Diane) Glaza of Clawson; John (Colleen) Glaza of Warren; Marie Glaza of Warren; Robert (Becky) Glaza of Madison Heights and David (Cindy) Glaza of Pontiac; one loving daughter-in-law, Kim Glaza; grandchildren: Jeff (Carrie) Novick, Jodie (Brian) McGuckin, Chris (Emily) Glaza, Candy (Michael) Albin, Scott (Lori) Glaza, Dawn Glaza, Gregory Glaza, Jesse Glaza, Justin Glaza, Lysa Glaza, and Stephen Glaza; and by four great-grandchildren: Darren and Janine McGuckin, Zachary Albin and Michael Glaza Sykes.  She is also survived by five sisters: Evelyn Learman, Rita (Art) Glaza, Adelaide (Jerome) Block, Alice (Ken) Sadro and Rosalia (Richard) Holdwick; three brothers, Clarence (Delores) Terbrack, John Terbrack and Donald (Nancy) Terbrack. 

She was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth in 1996 and Alan in January 2006; and five brothers: Herbert, Marvin, Maruis, Gerald and Herman Terbrack; and two sisters: Jeanette (Frank) Seidl and Matilda (Billie) Johnson. 

 

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m.  Friday, October  20, 2006 at St.  Justin Catholic Church, in Hazel Park.  Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m.  Thursday at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 23919 John R Road, Hazel Park, MI 48030.  She will lie in state at 10:30 a.m.  until the Funeral Mass Friday at the church.

Edward I. Glaza

May 10, 1919October 11, 2008

Mr.  Edward I.  Glaza, 89, of Ubly, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 at his residence.   Edward was born May 10, 1919 in Ubly to the late Frank X.  and Theresa (Gwizdalla) Glaza.    He married Viola Edna Bukoski on June 5, 1943 at St.  John Catholic Church in Ubly.   Edward was a 1936 graduate of the Ubly High School.   He was born, raised and worked on the family farm outside of Ubly until he retired in 1980.   Edward was an electrician with Bruno Gornowich in the late 1930s, wiring many homes for electricity.   He worked for 10 years with ASCS.   Edward was a lifelong member of St.  John’s Catholic Church in Ubly where he was a former member of the ushers club.   He was a member of the Ubly Fox Hunters.   Edward was an avid card player, casino patron, mushroom hunter, fisherman and storyteller.   He also loved deer and turkey hunting, bagging his most recent turkey this past spring.

 

Edward is survived by his wife of 65 years, V.  Edna Glaza of Ubly; his children: Vernon Glaza and his wife, Dianne, of Ubly; Kay Bukoski of Millington; Frank Glaza of Cass City; William Glaza and his wife, Betty, of Ubly; Theresa Murdock and her husband, Steven, of Ubly; 10 grandchildren: Jeff (Tammy) Bukoski of Millington; Colleen Bukoski of Lake City; Barbara (Doug) Kane of Livonia; Scott (Nancy) Bukoski of Mayville; Edna Joanne “E.J.” Glaza of Grand Rapids; Greg (Tonya) Bukoski of Millington; Bradley Glaza of Ubly; Bryan Glaza of Saginaw; Patrick Murdock of Mt.  Pleasant; Megan Murdock of Ubly; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends; four sisters: Margaret Chinoski of Ruth; Mildred Antos and husband, John, of Utica; Dolores Dapkus of Plymouth; Genevieve Gorang and husband, Ronald, of Modesto, California; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Glaza and Doris Glaza, both of Ubly.   Edward was preceded in death by one son-in-law, LaVern Bukoski; one sister, Susan Deachin Tschirhart; two brothers, Stanley and John Glaza.

 

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m.  Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at St.  John’s Catholic Church in Ubly.  The Rev.  Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.   Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.  on Tuesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly and from 10 to 11 a.m.  Wednesday at the church only.  There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m.  on Tuesday at the funeral home.   Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.

John (Jack) William Glaza
February 20, 1917March 9, 2000
John "Jack" William Glaza, 83, of Ubly died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 9, 2000, after a day of golf at Fort Meade, Florida.  He was born on February 20, 1917, in Ubly, the son of the late Frank Xavier and Teresa (Gwizdalla) Glaza.  Jack retired in 1981 as chief engineer from the Thumb Electric Cooperative after 43 years of service and was a 55-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.  Jack was a life-long parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church and a member of St. Vincent DePaul of Holiday, Florida.  He served on the Ubly Village Council for many years and was a member of the Ubly Fox Hunter's Club, an usher at St. John's church, member of the Ubly Senior Citizens Group and Bonita Men's Club of Holiday, Florida, and a former member of the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed golfing, wine making, cards and visiting with family and friends.  
 
Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris (Priemer) Glaza; two sons, Gerald Glaza and his wife, Cindy, of Canton, and Michael Glaza and his wife, Beverly, of Ann Arbor; three daughters, Joan Smith and her husband, Ronald, of Lansing, Janet Williams and her husband, Donald, of West Bloomfield, and Diana Gover and her husband, Mark, of Lansing; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Julie and Jane Glaza, Justin and Andrew Smith, Blake Williams, Maxwell and Elle Gover, and Marcka Glaza; a brother, Edward Glaza and his wife, Edna, of Ubly; and four sisters, Marge Chinoski and her husband, Ambrose, of Parisville, Mildred Antos and her husband, John, of Shelby Township, Delores Dapkus and her husband, Phil, of Saline, and Genevieve Gorang and her husband, Ron, of Modesto, California.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley; and a sister, Susan Tschirhart.  
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at St. John's Catholic Church, Ubly.  The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate. Judy Kay (Nugent) Glaza

May 5, 1947October 5, 2001

Mrs. Judy Kay Glaza, 54, of Ubly passed away Friday morning, October 5, 2001, at her residence under hospice care.  She was born May 5, 1947, in Bad Axe, daughter of John and Dorothy (Stirrett) Nugent.  She married Arnold Glaza on July 27, 1968, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Saginaw.  Judy was a graduate of Ubly High School in 1965.  She graduated from Ferris State University in 1967 with an associate's degree as a dental assistant.  She worked 28 years as a dispatcher for the Huron County Sheriff's Department and Central Dispatch.  She was also owner of Aunt Judy's Collectibles.  Judy was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly, where she was a member of St. John Christian Mothers Circle No. 4 Queen of Angels.  She was also a former Eucharistic Minister at the parish.  She was a member of the Jubilee Singers and the Ubly Girls Royal Highlanders Bagpipe Group.  She was also a member of the Med-Control Board.  She loved music, antiques, traveling and hosting family gatherings.  She enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren. 

 

Judy is survived by her husband, Arnold, of Ubly; two sons, Scott Glaza of Alma, and Chad Glaza and his wife, Cristy, of Gaylord; two grandchildren, Jake and Catie Glaza of Gaylord; her parents, John and Dorothy Nugent of Weidman; two brothers, Jerry Nugent and his wife, Diane, of Davison, and Warren Nugent and his wife, Mary Jane, of Bath; one sister, Elrae Herp and her husband, Jerry, of Ubly; mother-in-law, Gertrude Glaza of Ubly; brothers-in-law, Orville Glaza and his wife, Marcia, of Ubly, and Lawrence Glaza and his wife, Doty, of Ubly; sister-in-law, Marie Roberts and her husband, Bill, of Ubly; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Stanley Glaza; two nephews, Jonathan Nugent and Jeffrey Herp; and her niece, Jodi Glaza. 

 

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 8 p.m. on Saturday and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday.  Memorials requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.

Richard Ronald Glaza

August 13, 1933July 30, 2009

Richard Ronald Glaza, 75 of Comins, Michigan, passed away on July 30, 2009 at his residence.   He was born on August 13, 1933 to Theodore and Mary (Zajac) Glaza in Bay City, Michigan.   He has lived in Comins since 1980 after retiring from the US Navy out of Bremerton, Washington.   He was a member of the Comins Eagles.   He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.   He loved being "up north", and enjoyed his trout pond and loved to watch the animals.  

 

Richard is survived by his two daughters: Julie Trewhella and Dawn (Thomas) Lowe, both of Milford, Michigan; grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Brent, Alyssa, and Ashlyn; and brothers: John (Pam) Glaza of Bay City, Michigan, and Bill (Nancy) Glaza of Essexville, Michigan.   He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa, brothers: James and Tom; and sisters: Nancy Maliszewski and Elaine Vanmullekom.  

 

As were his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services for Mr.  Glaza planned at this time.

Susie Rose (Glaza) Grifka

May 29, 1922April 8, 2005

Mrs.  Susie Rose Grifka, 82, of Ubly passed away Friday night, April 8, 2005, at Covenant Harrison in Saginaw.  Susie was born on May 29, 1922, in Harbor Beach to the late John and Gertrude (Pyrek) Glaza.  She married Arthur Grifka on September 22, 1940, at St.  Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.  He preceded her in death on January 27, 1984.  She was a graduate of a country school.  She moved to the Detroit area to work.  She was employed at Frigid Foods in Detroit for 15 years.  She was a former parishioner at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Sterling Heights.  Susie and Art retired and moved to Ubly in 1980.  She was a parishioner at St.  John Catholic Church in Ubly and was a charter member of the St.  John Christian Mothers, joining Circle 1 St. Ann's.  She enjoyed her family and her friends at the Bad Axe Senior Center.  She also enjoyed bingo, playing cards, going on trips, and crossword puzzles. 

 

Susie is survived by two daughters, Joyce LaNava and her husband, Gary, of Clifford, Lorraine Stabli and her husband, John, of Fremont, California; five grandchildren, Dominic, Joseph, and Michael LaNava, Shannon Erickson, and Erin Long; four great-grandchildren, Anthony LaNava, Vincent LaNava, Alexandra LaNava, and Dominic LaNava Jr.; two brothers, Walter Glaza and his wife, Delores, of Ubly, Roman Glaza and his wife, Lucille, of Ubly; many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Kosal, Beatrice Sobczak, and Edna Fisher. 

 

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m.  Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at St.  John Catholic Church in Ubly.  The Rev.  Steve Gavit, pastor of Sts.  Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth, will officiate.  Burial will be in the St.  John Cemetery in Ubly.  Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m.  Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m.  Wednesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 7 p.m.  and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m.  Tuesday at the funeral home.

Theresa Monica (Buchkowski) Glaza

October 7, 1918June 11, 2003

Theresa Monica (Buchkowski) Glaza, 84, of Ruth died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in her home following a three month battle with cancer.  She was born on October 7, 1918, at the home of her parents, the late Joseph and Mary (Kulish) Buchkowski.  She attended Maurer School, Paris District No. 3 and graduated on June 3, 1932.   On October 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Stanley Fabian Glaza at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she had been a life long member until her death.  They were married for 56 years and lived and worked side by side on their centennial farm until they retired in 1984.  She was a member of the St. Mary's Rosary Sodality.  She enjoyed quilting, vegetable gardening and flower gardening.  She always looked forward to visits from children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 


She is survived by her five children, Mildred Block and her husband, Kenneth, of Lexington, Eleanor Shaw of Ann Arbor, Richard Glaza and his wife, Roxie, of Shelby Township, Lillian Abrams and her husband, William of Owosso, and Carl Glaza of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Ronald, Ernest, Randolph, and Kenneth Jr.  Block, Cynthia Davis, Patrick Shaw, Teresa McPherson, Ricky Boyd, Amber Palinski, Shawn and William Abrams, Nicholas Glaza; ten great-grandchildren, Alena Schneider, Cassandra and Jarrett Block, Regina and Adam Block, Matthew and Jordan Block, Amanda Boyd, Austin and Ashley Abrams; four sisters, Emma Fisher of Ubly, Bernice Ignash of Port Huron, Marie Krozek of Ubly and Matilda Particka of Bad Axe.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley on June 5, 1997; five sisters, Isabella Swartz-Weisenberger, Sophia Susalla, Albena Maurer, Gertrude Susalla-Messing, Josephine Miller; two brothers, Alosie Buchkowski and Joseph Buchkowski Jr. 

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville.  Fr. Andrzej Boroch, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 9:30 p.m. today at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly, and from 10 to 11 a.m.  on Friday at the church.  There will be a rosary by St. Mary's Rosary Sodality at 8 p.m.  tonight at the funeral home.  Memorials may be offered to the Huron Memorial Hospice.

Walter J.  Glaza

November 21, 1931March 21, 2009

Mr.  Walter J.  Glaza, 77, of Austin Township and Bad Axe passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 at his residence of an apparent heart attack.   He was born November 21, 1931 in Harbor Beach to the late John and Gertrude (Peyerk) Glaza.   He married Delores Szymanski on May 9, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Detroit.   Walter graduated from the Filmore Rural School.   He worked for and retired from Ford Motor Company.   He and his wife moved to the Ubly area in 1972.   He was a former member of the Thumb Rose Society.   He was a current parishioner at St.  John Catholic Church in Ubly.   Walter was a veteran of the Korean War and received a Purple Heart.   He was a lifelong member of the Parisville VFW Post No.  5740.   He loved gardening, bird watching, antique cars, taking trips to the casinos and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Walter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores, of Austin Township; one daughter, Sandra Grifka and her husband, Donald, of Bad Axe; two sons: Kenneth Glaza and his wife, Shirley, of Decker; Mark Glaza and his wife, Tammy, of Ubly; six grandchildren: Lisa Glaza and her special friend, Chad, Jason Glaza and his wife, Amber, Justin Grifka and his wife, Kayla, Lindsay and Chelsea Grifka, Jeffery Glaza and his special friend, Kristy; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Rose Glaza; one brother, Roman Glaza and his wife, Lucille, of Ubly. 

He was preceded in death by four sisters: Grace Kosal and her husband, Leo, Susie Grifka and her husband, Art, Beatrice Sobczak and her husband, Leonard, Edna Fisher and her husband, Clements.

 

The funeral service will be at 8 p.m.  Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  The Rev.  Joseph Griffin, pastor of St.  John Catholic Church in Ubly, will officiate.  Private burial will be in the St.  John Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m.  Tuesday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.   Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
