When you enter a search term in this tool and click "Search," it uses Google to look for that search term in the Jackson County MIGenWeb site AND in the MIGenWeb site of each of the surrounding counties. The goal is to make it easier to find matches to your search in the surrounding areas that might otherwise be missed by limiting the search to Jackson County alone.
Search Tips:
BE SPECIFIC. Simple, generic searches return too many matches to be helpful. Use quotes to search for exact phrases, such as:
"Vandercook Lake"
Try alternative spellings using "OR" to separate them, like:
bane OR bayn
Try swapping first and last names, such as:
"george dunbar" OR "dunbar, george"
Use AROUND(X) where X is the number of nearby words to consider close enough to match.
This creates a proximity search to look for one phrase within so many words of another, such as:
napoleon AROUND(4) "michigan center"
Combine multiple methods. Examples:
"john smith" OR "john smythe" OR "smith, john" OR "smythe, john"
