passed away Wednesday evening in
Fairmount Hospital.
Mrs. Sackett was born Dec. 23, 1873, in
Ireland, the daughter of Michael and Ann McMorrow and had been a
resident of this community for the past 70 years.
She was a member of
St. Augustine Church and was proceeded in death by two sons,
Bernard Shanley in 1965 and Francis Shanley in 1953.
Mrs.
Sackett is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bernard Shanley
of Kalamazoo, several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Donovan
Funeral Home after 7 o'clock this evening, where the rosary will
be recited Friday evening at 8 o'clock,
Funeral Services will be held Saturday
morning at 8 o'clock at St. Joseph Church. Burial in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.

Passed away early
Thursday morning at Bronson Hospital.
Mr. Shanley was born
February 9, 1900 in Kalamazoo, the son of Timothy and Bridgett
Shanley, and was a life long resident of this community.
He
was a member of St. Joseph Church and Dads of World War II. A
son Robert was killed in the Normandy Invasion June 6, 1944.
Mr. Shanley is survived by wife Margaret, his mother, Mrs.
Brigett Sackett, several neices and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Donovon Funeral Home after 7
o'clock this evening, where the rosary will be recited Friday
evening at 8 o'clock. Funeral
services will be held at St.
Joseph Church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock.
Burial in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery.

SHANLEY, EDWARD - Battle Creek

Word has been received here of the
sudden death at his home in Los Angeles. Sunday night of Edward
Shanley 33, a former
resident of this city. His death
followed a heart attack.
The body was to arrive in Battle
Creek this afternoon and a solemn high mass of requeim will be
celebrated at 9 o'clock
tomorrow morning at St. Philip
Catholic Church.
The Rev. Fr. Maurice Walsh will be
thecelbrant and interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at
Kalamazoo. The body will be
at Farley's Funeral Home until
8:45 o'clock Saturday morning.
Mr. Shanley is survived by his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shanley, of 34 Peninsular street,
three sisters, Mrs. Glan Wilson of California, Mrs. Clarence
Sass of Pleasant Ave and Mrs. Phillip Corkins of 34 Peninsular
Street, and two brothers, James Shanley of 34 Peninsular street
and John Shanley in Australia.

John Shanley. 74. died at his
residence at 34 Peninsular street at 6:30 this morning after a
several years' illness
Mr. Shanley had been a resident of
Battle Creek most of his life having been a small boy when his
parents moved from Dublin, Ireland to this city.
He was
married 49 years ago to Mary Sparrow who survives him.
Mr.
.Shanley had worked at one time as a section foreman for the
Michigan Central Railroad and later was employed by the Union
Steam Pump company.
Retiring 14 years ago.
Surviving
besides the widow an three daughters. Mrs. Clarence E. Sass. of
37 Pleasant avenue; Mrs Phlillp Corkins, of 554 Bedford Road,
and Mrs. Glen
Wilson, of Los Angeles. Cal.. and two sons
James, at home, and John. of Sidney, Australia.
Requiem mass
will sung by the Rev. Maurice Walsh at St Philip church at 9
o'clock Monday morning and burial will be In Mount Olivet
Cemetery. Kalamazoo.
Friends may call at the residence,
where the body was takes from from the Farley Funeral Home
(NOTE: John was in his teens when he came
to America, he came from Lietrim, Ireland and he lived in
Kalamazoo until 1901.)

Dies in
Sydney, Australia.
John P. Shanley, 68,a former Battle Creek
resident who was district and plant mangager of the Kellogg Co.
operations at Sydney,
Australia, for 35 years, died un
expectedly yesterday at his home in Sydney.
He had had been
with the Kellogg Co. here for about a year, John when, in 1928
he was assigned to Sydney to manage the plant of the Kellogg
Australia
Proprietary Ltd., which is a wholly owned Kellogg
Co. subisidiary. He retired June 30, 1963 and, with his wife,
had twice visited in Battle Creek since then.
The couple was
last here ,this fall, having left Oct. 1.
Mr. Shanley was
born July 6, 1897, at Kalamazoo, son of John and Mary (Sparrow)
Shanley, and came to Battle Creek with his parents as a child.
He was a graduale of St. Philip High School.
He was marricd
here Aug. 20, 1923 to Inch Merchant, who survives, in addition
to a daughter, Mrs. Benton (Donna Marie) Alexander of Torrance,
Calif.,
and three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Elizabeth) Sass of
290 Honey Lane, Mrs. Bernice Corkins of 554 Bedford Road and
Mrs. Glan N. (Margaret) Wilson
of Fullerton, Calif.
Funeral sevices and interment, Monday will be at Sydney.
NOTE: John was reburied in Memorial Park
Cemetery (Battle Creek, MI) on Sept. 19, 1966

Sunday afternoon, Oct. 8, 1978, at Birch Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Shanley was born in Kalamazoo, the daughter of August and
Julia (Kopp) Garske and was a life ling resident here.
She
was retired from the Kalamzoo Paper Co.Mrs. Shanley was member
of St. Joseph Cathloic Church and St. Joseph Altar Society,
Gold Star Mothers and was Past Commander of Red Arrow Auxillary
No. 1520.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Bernard
M. Shanley, in 1965 and a son Robert J. Shanley in 1944.
Friends are being received at the Redmond Funeral Home where the
rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:30:
Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Cathlic Church 12 Noon
Wednesday. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial may be
made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Fontbonne Manor.

Mrs. Mary Shanley,
84, of 37 Pleasant Avenue, widow of the late John Shanley, died
at 8 a.m. Sunday at home after a critical illness of three days.
She had been in ill health since last August. She was born in
Dublin, Ireland, June 9, 1868, a daughter of Patrick and
Elizabeth (Riley) Sparrow,
and lived in Battle Creek for th
past 60 years.
Her Husband died in 1940. She was a member of
the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are three
daughters, Mrs. Mary Corkins of 554 Bedford Road, Mrs. Elizabeth
Sass, with whom she made her home, of 37 Pleasant Avenue,
and Mrs. Margaret Wilson of Los Angeles; and two sons James
Shanley of 176 East Fountain, and John Shanley of Sidney,
Australia; six grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
NOTE:Place of Birth is Wrong, She was born in WEXFORD, IRELAND,
Mothers Maiden Name is Wrong, Should Be MURPHY.

The two week old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John Shanley, 728 Cooley strret, died last evening at 8
o'clock.
The funeral will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. at St.
Augustine's Church.

D-DAY VICTIM
Local Sergeant Killed, Parents
Notified.
Official word was received here from the war
department Wednesday naming Kalamazoo's second D-Day Victim of
the Allied Invasion of
Northern France.
He is Sgt. Robert
Shanley, 22, U. S. 4th division artillery gunner, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Bernard Shanley, 1408 Fulford street.
He is believed to
have lost his life a few minutes after the first khaki-cladwaves
plunged shoreward the morning of June 6.

Teresa Agnes Shanley, aged one year and five
months, daughter of Mr. 8 Mrs. John Shanley, 1025 North Church
Street,
died at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoonof Chlorea
Infantum. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Monday Morning
from St. Augustine Church.

SHENTON,
FRED - The Newton (IA) Daily News, Tues 2 May 2000
Fred E. Shenton, 77,
of Newton died of a heart ailment Monday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital
in Des Moines. The body
was cremated, and graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at
Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton. Mr. Shenton had
lived in Newton all of his life.
He was a retired Maytag employee and also had been a
contractor. He was a
Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Newton Elks Club and
First United Methodist Church in Newton.
He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
He is survived by two sons, three grandchildren; and a
great-grandchild. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Grace. The family
will receive friends from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at
Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.
