Old Federal Building
Lyon Street and Ionia Avenue
The site of the Old Federal Building was a swampy area, a local swimming hole and an ice skating pond in the early days. In 1879 the structure held federal offices and the post office. It was the first of two federal buildings to be built on this site. The first building only covered half of the block. In 1909, construction was begun on the second federal building and it was completed in 1911. |
