House Secretary of Local Association Succumbs in Chicago

    Mrs. Bertha Turner Burgess, granddaughter of Eliphaliet Turner, first clerk of Grand Rapids and after whom Turner Avenue was named, died Monday morning at 4 a.m. at Jackson Park Hospital, Chicago.

    Mrs. Burgess, who for the past five years had been house secretary of the local Y. W. C. A. had gone to Chicago to attend a conference of Y. W. C. A. secretaries.  Soon after her arrival she became ill and an emergency operation was performed Wednesday.

    Mrs. Burgess resided in Grand Rapids her entire life and was widely known through her work with the Y. W. C. A.  She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church.

    Mrs. Eva Adams, a sister, who is chaperone of nurses at Blodgett hospital, was with Mrs. Burgess at the time of her death.
