Ancient Egyptian Style Mausoleum of Marcus Brown
Location: 647 Hall SE, 49507, Oakhill Cemetery, South Side
Oakhill Cemetery boasts a number of huge and striking mausoleums: The following excerpt from "The Story of Grand Rapids" by Z.Z. Lydens. Chapter 33, Page 532. Kregel Publications, 1966 & 67. Probably the most expensive of the mausoleums is that of A. B. Watson, a replica of an Egyptian temple. Major Watson, who died in 1888, was a Civil War veteran, lumberman, and industrialist. It was said in later years the mausoleum would cost a half million dollars to replace. |
