White Swan Cemetery

This cemetery was initially cared for by the White Swan Methodist Episcopal Church
(a.k.a. Oakfield Methodist Episcopal Church), and the land was sold for use as a cemetery in the 1860’s.

The two pillars that support the entrance arch to the cemetery, each bears a bronze plaque with inscriptions.

Left Side Inscription

"In Memoriam to the White Swan Civil War Boys"

These names represent over 200 conflicts of the Civil War. Seven of them perished in the conflict south. They all enlisted within two miles of White Swan Cemetery.

"This arch is erected in memory of my father and mother, Stephen S. and Mary A. Tower and all pioneers of White Swan district. Stephen S. Tower settled in Oakfield in 1839. They gave their lives in trying to make this a better place for their children and their children’s children to live in.
