The Board met at the Court House in the city of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent, this 9th, day of February, and was called to order by the Clerk.
Hon. Henry C. Smith, Chairman of the Board, being absent, on motion of Mr. Withey, R. H. Smith was appointed Chairman pro tem.

Mr. Smith took the Chair, and the following members answered to their names, on the call of roll, to wit:

Journal of the Board of Saturday, January 10, 1857, read and approved.

Mr. Leavitt presented the petition of B. F. Leonard and John C. Tryon, for permission to erect and maintain a toll bridge across Grand River, nearly opposite Cold Brook, in the city of Grand Rapids. The same was, on motion, referred to the special committee on roads and bridges, to wit: Messrs. McArthur, Gerould and VanLew.

Mr. Leavitt, from the committee, on exchange of poor farm, presented and read a report commending an exchange with T. I. Tanner, Esq., on certain conditions and restrictions. The report was accepted and the committee discharged.

Mr. Leavitt presented a paper signed by R. C. Luce and 210 others, conditioned, in effect, that "if the Supervisors would locate the Court House and county offices, on the Court House Square, they, the subscribers would pay the sums set opposite their respective names, to the County Treasurer, amounting to over $7,000; and in addition, Mr. Luce offered the use of his new hall for county purposes, for five years, free of charge to the county." The same was accompanied by a resolution, drawn in accordance with the suggestions of the paper, and they were accepted and laid on the table.

Permission was granted Mr. Brevoort to make an explanation relative to an account of his, audited at the January session, for building a cistern for the jail, and which was not allowed at the amount presented.

On motion of Mr. Tucker, that the balance of the account ($15) be allowed, the same was lost by ayes, 8; nays, 11.

Board then adjourned until tomorrow morning, at 9 o'clock.
